atleast you got to dyno this weekend. We drove all the way down to Banks' for a El Mirage 200 mph club meeting, and there was supposed to be a dyno shootout for all the race cars and tow rigs. Once they got wind of some heavy hitting dmax's coming down they all of a sudden said there was not enough interest (yet probably 20+ cars wanting to dyno), then they said dyno operator didnt show up (i guess only one guy knows how to operate the dyno out of the 10+ employees that were there?). Later we got wind they didnt want to get shown up at their own place by the competition (ie TTS power)..

got to give them credit for one hell of a beautiful facility though. They have lots of projects under way with the d-max motors. Dry sumps, billet oil pans, large turbos, new pistons, rods, head work etc. had some really cool cutouts of the dmax motors, so it was very interesting to see what is all inside these things.

The hp and tq curve could set right over each other, the only thing different is the scale numbershttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

What happened to the 1800 rpm being the peak torque? you are only showing about 45-47% of peak torque at 1800 rpmhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif and 95% of your peak hp is down near the peak torquehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Was that run with the TTS extreme only or did you have anything else stacked too? Looks like some good numbers on the dyno but how does it drive on the street? And do you need to buy any new rear tires yet?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thx Diesel Dragon http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

pretty sure he is running only the extreme. The extreme is a bit touchy to drive on the street due to the massive amounts of torque it puts out. Really have to be smooth with the right foot. I prefer stage 2 or 120hp for daily use, but anytime I need the power it is only a fingers length away.

If Steve is actively selling these extremes, they are hands down the best bang for the buck if you are after big numbers.

I'm having trouble understanding your point. Is there something you'd like to compare it to? Please explain your thoughts.

IMO the curves before 2250 are probably not valid. My guess is that peak TQ is actually higher than 1000, but occurs below 2250 somewhere. I'm basing this on the shape of HP curve. Your results may vary. I do know I could not get reliable TQ values without being able to lock it fourth.

Interpolating the curve by eye, and assuming a constant ramp, he was making about 375rwhp and 1125ftlb at 1750rpm. Just a hunch though.

Trippin,

Were you running a stacked combo or just the Extreme? Also, what are you doing to keep the fuel pressure up?

The truck has TTS Xtreme program, AFE stage 2, 4" exhaust and ATS transmission/converter.

Hdmax

What curves you looking at as they look complete different to me.

Peak torque 1006.7 @ 2213 rpm

Peak RwHp 464.4 @ 2635

It's above 420 RwHp from 2200 to 3200 and since the motor idles at 600 rpm and the normal operating range is 1400 rpm to 3200 rpm that's about 60% of the time!

I was referring to the up side, it looks like the tq and power curve are nearly the same shape.

I have just never seen it where both tq and hp are so closely shaped the same.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

Kennedy
06-06-2004, 09:55 PM
If they were on the same graph, the shapes would change. Trippin could do both on same graph to show the changes.

Peak TQ generally falls around 2400RPM with the big boxes and tons of fuel as the engine is actually overfueled down low, then the turbo takes off and light things up, thus the pronounced peak in the curve. I'd like to see the Wheel Power numbers if you have them...Edited by: Kennedy

hdmax

I understand what you are saying, but the shape will not change much from 1250-2250. Take a real good look at the two, they are very close the same. I know they are not the same, but closer then I think I have seen before.

John,

I'm not sure what "wheel power" is....or if the gear ratio or tire size has anything to with it but you asked for it so here it is. Are there additonal parameters that have to be set for this? I know it looks even better if we use the DJWhPw and DJWhTk factors or even the STD numbers. As you and I are the only ones posting Superflow numbers which should I use?

If you go to plot/preferenced/channel order, You can select Wheel Power, and Wheel torque. Channels 100, and 121. These are before correction numbers.

I'm still a bit undecided as to how I feel about correction factors as applied to a turbo diesel. The SAE isn't as drastic as STP, but still may be a bit optimistic. The power curve WILL change with conditions somewhat, but how much remains to be seen.

As a quick reference, you can go to the data sheet, and select File/average/colums, then display/maximums and you'll get the peaks. When time and conditions allow, I've been doing 2 or 3 runs then select file/average/tests and averaging the 3 tests so long as they are consistent.

The Extreme is bad ass on the street nothing has ripped the Max like it before ... My ass O meter was impressed then I got dismal numbers on a DynoJet ....

Hooked up with Jannetty Racing (always accommodating to me nonetheless) a quick call and off I went later in the day ...

State off the art load cell dyno .... Has more bells and whistles then I imagined ...

Got some good advise and he actually produced the peak numbers as he recognized sumtin ... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif

Same sweep ,very controlled, he took a 438/953 and turned it into a 455/998 on one ECM .... Impressive, thanks Ted !!!!

Sweeps were started at 25 LBS of boost 50-74 MPH approx ....

Other Numbers posted were from another ECM program ....

The LLY that I dyno'd was bone stock, and very low miles, but it wasn't anyting spectacular by any means. There was a sort of goofy "lump" in the curve around 2200RPM. Likely programming related...

Dyno facility link:

http://www.westechperformance.com (http://www.westechperformance.com)

This dyno contains auxillary sensors so we recorded Boost, Fuel Pressure, and EGTs for each run. Slipped the fuel pressure tap into where the schrader valve is by the passenger side alternator. Boost was "T"eed into the wastegate line and EGT was plugged into the 1/8" pipe hole already there for my Attitude thermocouple.
