I keep hearing a noise going down the road that doesn't sound normal. It isn't turbo whine, or exhaust, and it isn't diesel clatter, it sounds more like a nest of wasps in a coffee can under the hood. It is appearant at all speeds, but it seems intermittant.
I am not too concerned, but would like to know what the noise is. Edited by: Mofun

I guess I should add that my truck has 2500 miles and is completely stock.
One other noise that I hope is normal. At low speeds the transmission (or transfer case) has a whine like my powerglide in my 61' impala.

There are 2 normal but "interesting" noises my DA makes:
"Jet Taking Off" - Loud whirring noise that sounds like the trans is slipping, yet tach indicates that is not the case. It's the fan.
"Rattlesnake" - Loud ticking at certain rpm's and loads. It's the injectors.

I hear a slapping noise at idle, my neighbor just got a duramax and his makes the same noise. Anyone know what it is?? Sounds to me like something loose in the exhaust.

I have a new noise in my LLY as oposed to my LB7.
On the highway at crusing speed as I go up and down hills I have somewhat of a pinging or knocking noise. It sounds just like detonation from low octane fuel in a gasser. It also occurs under the same condtions as it would on a gasser (overdrive up a hill under load low rpms). It drives me crazy!!
I cannot imagine that it is a normal noise. I am going to try to get the dealer to take me for a spin in one of their other LLYs to see if it can be reproduced in another truck. Anyone else notice this condition??
Before you say anything I know what it sound like when the pilot injectors turn off and all the other noises that are normal. This is definately not a noise that my LB7 ever made.
