clean the area real well and JB Weld it...I did this with a radiator and it lasted for years...
Not sure if bypassing the cooler would harm it for a short period of time.

I'd say it would be OK for interstate driving for a bit. Cars of old did not have them. City driving w/ high underhood temps, heavy use, big tires etc I am not so sure.

Just to be safe change fluid out when you install new cooler maybe.

i guess it cools the power steering fluid....im sure there was a reason gm put them on the trucks...id like to know why the temp of the power steering fluid matters too...all i know is the one on my van leaks fluid..

so where is this cooler located? ive got 2 mounted in front of my rad but i was always to believe they were oil and tranny.....Ive got to honestly say ive never heard of one before either. You'd think that maybe GM could've designed a better cooling system for the ENGINE, (certain years) instead of wasting time with a "power steering fluid cooler"....

Its a little cooler kind of behind the drivers headlights to the side of the radiator. I doubt it cools the hydraulic fluid a whole bunch only keeps it from getting too hot. I know that sounds contradictory but I mean there might not be a need to remove a lot of heat.

I'd say they put it on diesels because of the underhood temps and hydro-booster. I don't think the steering by itself adds a bunch of heat. Stop and go traffic on the brakes might especially towing????
