Well, I finally got around to cleaning my amsoil 2-Stage air filter today. It was totally black and splattered with bugs and debris, like the picture on another thread here. My air restriction gauge showed had not budged. I tapped out the big stuff and cleaned, and cleaned, and cleaned...... It's still drying, got a little surface rust on the grid and sprayed it lightly WD40. I then ran my cleaned fingers through the inlet tube, NO dirt, grit, sand found. I then wiped with a clean paper towel and only a slightly black film out the first 1 ft or so. I then wiped the corrugated part and got almost a clean paper towel.

I would surmise the black film is oil from the filter. I spray cleaned my MAF with electronic cleaner with a clean paper towel underneath. I could see no detrimental discoloration

I had about 23K (53k now) and over a year with the filter. I live in a very dusty/dry part of So. TX, and drive quite a bit through farm land and on caliche roads to and from the ranch.

As far as I'm concerned, I am sold on this filter. I've had K&N on my other vehicles and have had no problems with them either, I just wanted to do a comparo the Amsoil.

However, I have not done an oil analysis. I just ordered a couple and will do one on the next oil change.

I do have a few thoughts. One, seems I heard or read something about air traveling through a media electro-static charging the material. Maybe that is what attracts dirt traveling through these "holes"?

Second, when you take a sample for oil analysis, are most people draining off a little through the drain plug? If so, as they say "S&!t rolls down hill" In other words all the junk settles to the bottom of the oil pan, which may skew the results.

Finally, I think I am going to remove and plug the air resistance gauge. It does not seem to serve a purpose, and is a weak link in the system.

Somebody needs to soak there filter in nitro-methane racing fuel, coast up to the starting line, fire her up and tear off a 10 second quarter mile. Hows that for cheap horsepower.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gifEdited by: Bronco
