: Service that dealer said I need?

I went in to the dealer to get the oil changed and they handed me a list of things that they said my truck needed at 30K ( currently has about 29k now ). Most I can understand, but I am unsure about several of them. One fo the items that were checked was the condition of the fuel system. Is this legitimate? Is there some way for them to clean the injectors on a diesel? One of the others is the Power Steering fluid. Is it time to replace this also? Radiator coolant....I thought that the GM coolant was good for 100k? Last but not least the tranny fluid. I thought that by reading the other posts that it should be done at 50k. The spin on filter has been replaced already. My tranny has been pulled because of a leak about 6k ago. They replaced the pump among other things. (torque convertor bolts were loose) Could someone pleaseshed some light on this please. I am trying to determine if some of this needs to be done at this time. The dealer has been pretty good to me and they even sell Edge Juice modules. Service manager even has one on his truck.

Thanks

Checking the fuel system will be a Tech II check ...

Yes coolant is long life ....

Tranny fluid you are correct also ....

Power steering never heard of it being a service life fluid change need specially at 30K ...

I would pass as everything isn't GM mandated but individual dealer recommended service ... Also stay away from dealer Juice approved dealers as when it comes to purchase and backing of the product ...

It's cool they wont hassle you but they also when push comes to shove fold like a wet noodle ...

Thanks, Mac. I am going to question the dealer a little more the next time that I go in. By the way, what is a Tech II check on the injection sysytem?Edited by: JDeere5105

They are probably trying to sell you flushes. We have BG flush equipment for trans, diesel injectors, p/s pumps and cooling systems. They are not part of GMs recommended service. At 30k you should have done, at the most, all the maintenance II items and the 25k additional services.

I can't believe they didn't try to flush your brake system. Perhaps that is at 50k

Sounds to me like they are trying to sell me more than I need. I think I will take them the owners manual the next time I am in. Thanks again guys. By the way, what is the difference between maintenance

I and II?

My local dealer sells and installs the Hypertech. The first few they installed they told the customers that they were GM approved. (salesman said this) I pointed out to the shop manager that this was not so. They all huddled up after I left and decided to tell all their customers to download the program if they needed work done at another dealership. Later! Frank

PS: I asked a question in the Tech section about the power steering fluid awhile back. I didn't get a reply. It is an air cooled hydraulic system that runs several hundred PSI. I am considering changing mine to synthetic in about 3K miles. Edited by: Frank Blum

When the CHANGE ENGINE OIL light appears, certain services and inspections are required. Required services are described in the following paragraphs for Maintenance I and Maintenance II. It is recommended that the first service on a vehicle be Maintenance I, the second service be Maintenance II and that you alternate between the two thereafter. However, in some cases, Maintenance II may be required more often.

Maintenance I

Use Maintenance I if the CHANGE ENGINE OIL light comes on within 10 months since vehicle was purchased or if Maintenance II was performed.

Maintenance II

Use Maintenance II if the previous service performed was Maintenance I. Always use Maintenance II whenever the CHANGE ENGINE OIL light comes on 10 months or more since the last service or if the CHANGE ENGINE OIL light has not come on at all for one year.
