In the book that came with my Duramax it says that the oil life blah blah.....basically it said you dont need to change your oil until 10,000 miles. Ive never heard of this. Ive always thought every 3 end of story. Am I an ass? My instincts tell me to throw the book in the can and change the oil now. Im at 3,000. Anything else I should definitely change?

i saw that as when reading mine the other night....i think10g is a bit extreme....i go w/my own little maintence schedule...For the oil, tho ive only had it for 1500 miles, i plan & have no hestiations on chaning mine about every 5k, or 3x's a yr... Fuel Filter every 6 months, and thinking about doing fluid/filter change for the tranny once a yr.......

Change the oil early and often when your milage is low. Lots of casting residue in these engines from the factory. If you really want to set your oil change intervals, then spectrographic and ferrographic oil analysis will be your best friends.

Very good and complete schedule by dmaxalliTech. I also asked my dealer to produce a recommended schedule for the Duramax. They said they were working on one and would send to me in a week or so. They provide a schedule for gassers, so I asked them to do the same for the Duramax. Actually referred them to the above post!
