You're sure it's the motor, and not the switch? Have you taken the interior door panel off yet? I've had to replace the exterior door handle. I had to get the glass off the track in order to do so. I didn't touch the motor because I didn't have to.

The best advice I can give you is TAKE YOUR TIME with it. Expect to have to bend your hands in ways they don't want to go and be prepaired to say goodbye to some skin on the backs of your hands.

on my old dodge, I had thought the same thing...it turned out to be the switch. The switch (on my old dodge, at least) was a relay. It applied positive juice to one wire, while making connecting the other to ground. Pull the switch apart, and find your constant "hot," touch the hot wire to one of the wires going to the regulater...touch the other to ground. Reverse if this doesn't work. One combination will be UP, the other, DOWN.

If you don't have a constant hot, check your fuses and wiring up to that point. For a temp. fix, to get the window up, just run a jumper wire til you can trace the wiring.

If you have a hot, and crossing the wires doesn't work, it's probably your regulator (unless there's a relay or fuse between the motor and the switch)

Definitely motor. Tested switch. +12V at up and down pin when operated. Motor just humms. Could be regulator but...I doubt it. Everything was working fine when motor started sputtering...then would stop, suddenly start, etc.

Checked wiring...seems OK. Like I said, motor buzzes when the switch is depressed in either direction.

It is always a good Idea to disconnect the negative cables from the batteries before working on anything electrical.
Remove the water deflector. Remove the inner mounting panel assembly. If the rivets have visible pins use a centre punch and a large hammer to knock the pins out of the rivet. The pins will fall into the door. (It helps if you have someone holding the door firmly.) Then use a large sized drill to carefully drill off the top of the rivet. Be careful not to drill the inner door panel. Do this for both the front and rear rivets. Remove the Regulator and motor from the inner panel.

Refitting is the reverse procedure using either new rivets or suitable sized bolt, nut and lock washer.
