: Bed liners
onesmokindmax04 06-05-2004, 12:02 PM ok lookin to get a bed liner of some sort has any one got the spray in bed liners ever one i have talked to said it can scratch easy??? or would it be cheeper to just get a plastic bed liner? how much do thes run any one no thanks?
Fireman 06-05-2004, 12:29 PM I have had the plastic drop-ins before. They are tough enough, but they scratch and rub the paint off the bed and eventually promote rust. not to mention, everything in the bed will slide around as you drive.
I have a Bed Rug in my truck now (put in in a week or two after I bought my truck...2-1/2 years ago) and I absolutely love it. It's $300 very well spent!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

Dutchie 06-05-2004, 03:50 PM I have a spray in liner, Gator Guard I think, just one you pick up at your local auto supply. I think the guy that installed it for me could have put it on a little thicker because it is scratched up a little. Maybe the brand name ones like Rhino etc are better but I'm not sure.
I still think it's the answer especially if you're mounting hardware for a fifth wheel hitch or cutting holes for gooseneck ball. If you start puncturing holes in a plastic liner, water and dirt can get between the bed and the liner and start rotting out your box and besides that, the plastic liners more slippery.
The nice thing about the spray-in is if it starts to get real scratched and chipped, just spray another coat over top and its like new again.
jjs3788 06-05-2004, 04:19 PM I had a Bed Rug in my 1500 and I loved it. The only problem I had was when putting my atv in the back, I would sometimes rub the side of the fender wells and it would pull the Bed Rug down.
I just had my new truck Line-Xed and I love it so far.
Harley99 06-05-2004, 05:10 PM sunny4x4chick,
I also have the Bed Rug. This is the second truck with one. My first truck after 25,000 miles the bed still looked like brand new, made a differance when I went to trade the truck. I took it out and the dealer thought that I had neved hauled anything in the bed, boy was he wrong. The Bed Rug is resistent to just about everything, and the best part is when hauling stuff in ther bed it doesn't move around. Well as you can see I'm a fan of the Bed Rug. IMHO it's the best for protecting your truck. Hope this helps

CaptainTrips 06-05-2004, 06:52 PM I just got a Line-x spray in done this morning and I love it http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Did some research on here and it looked like the general conscience was Line-X is the strongest of all the spray in liners. Life time grantee, if anything happens to it they will fix it for free.
This thread sealed the deal for me
http://dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=7946&KW=liner
cost was $435 and that was for "over the rails", it's cheaper if you do "under the rails"
jmg343 06-05-2004, 07:02 PM LINE-X!
martydma 06-05-2004, 09:27 PM Have Line-X in mine. I am totally impressed with the quality job and material. He recommended over the rail and it really looks great and still allows use of all rail accessories. He sprayed inside and below the tailgate without asking or charging more. No overspray anywhere. It's not a real work truck but I've carried a fair bit and haven't seen a scratch yet. Also looks good with an Extang R/T cover.
McRat 06-05-2004, 10:15 PM My last GM had the Rhino liner. Scratch it off??? Not a chance in hell.
This time I'm leaving the bed naked until it rusts. I've already got deep gouges and dents in it. But that's what I bought it for.
McRat 06-05-2004, 10:19 PM PS - If you haul gasoline in the back (or other volatile, flammable liquids) DO NOT GET A PLASTIC SLIDE IN. They generate static electricity and can ignite the fumes. No joke, very dangerous.
Snow_Dog 06-05-2004, 10:58 PM Go with the Line X

got a ? whats that rack on the back for? thanks ever one for the info on the liners
NEVR L8 06-05-2004, 11:27 PM Line-x here too. Just got it done on Thursday. They did agreat detailed job. This is the second truck I've had with the spray in liner. In my opinion, it's the only way to go. The drop ins rub pain and cause serious rust issues.

Check out there web site. I am repair / remodeling my house. I hate haveing the gate down to get 8 foot 2X4's to fit. This allows me to keep it up and tie them to the Back Rack. Also how many times one of your friends ask you to move there fridg and it is a pain it the but to tie it down?

I also went with the BedRug. I wanted something a little easier on my knees when loading and unloading. I've had it about a month and I am well pleased with it. The price of the spray-on liners up here were $425 and up and up. At just over $300 I was pleased.
Tsckey 06-07-2004, 12:38 AM I've had a BedRug since my truck was about a month old, even before the Shell. It has stood up to everything. If I were to haul a steady diet of rocks or sharp edged steel I might consider something else, but it is about perfect for my needs: furniture, sound equipment, odds and ends. And you won't leave little bits of yourself scraped off on it.

jdhankins 06-07-2004, 11:12 AM For you guys with the Bed Rug, how would it hold up in the rain in the Northwest? It would likely be wet for 6 months of the year. Thanks for the info.
Harley99 06-07-2004, 11:21 AM jdhankins
I also live in the Northwest. The way that Bed Rug suggests to clean their product is with a power washer. The stuff it's made of won't let water soak in (plastic). Also it's not suspose to mold. I have a shell on my truck so don't worry to much about water but still don't think it will hurt it. I do beleive the guy that sold me mine said that about half of the Bed Rug owners don't put a shell on their trucks. Hope this helps
jdhankins 06-07-2004, 06:07 PM Harley99
Thanks for the reply.
I was worried about the mold growing on it.
se7enracing 06-07-2004, 07:29 PM Has anyone in the NW actually put a bedrug in one of their rigs or past rigs for any length of time? My lost Dudge had the Line-X and I liked the durability BUT the dirt and crap (quad & dirtbike mud) never really washed away and I was always scraping my hands, knuckles & knees. I like the Bedrug and am truly thinking that is the best for my situation, but I worry about the water being stuck under that RUG material for months and months and months (Good ol' Seattle). I would just like to hear someone tell me from experience that it works out well. I hear people in nice climates use them all the time but never anyone in the good ol rainy NW. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

DirtAndSand 06-07-2004, 11:07 PM I have hae plastic, Rynoliner, and Line X. The plastic will vibrate and wearing the paint, plus if moisture gets between the plastic and metal your in trouble. I tried Ryno and wasn't impressed. It is rather soft material and by throwing my dirt bikes and quads in the bed, it scared easily down to the metal. Also, I noticed after about 3 months, the Ryno became a chaulky gray color and looked like SH**.
I put Line X in my GMC and havent had any problems at all. 2 years and going, handles the abuse. My only comlaint besides $$ would be chaff'n my knees cause it feels like sand paper if your crawling around iniside the bed.....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I'm obviously not in the NW, but we get a ton of rain here in sunny Florida.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
I checked my bed after having the Bed Rug in for over two years, and the truck being outside 24/7. The bed looked great...A little dusty, but no surface problems at all!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
There are far more pros than cons to having the Bed Rug for me to ever switch to a spray-in liner.

IceMan6533 06-07-2004, 11:36 PM my boss just had a rhino-liner done in his truck today. It came out great and was right at $435 for under the rails. i looked into all the spray-in liners and they are all nearly the same. they all do what they are supposed to do and all offer pretty much the same warranty. from what i got out of everyone i talked to they all said rhino-liners, line-x, and tuff liners were nearly the same, it just mattered which one you preffered. we went with the rhino-liner b/c they were the cheapest around here, could do it today, and were the closest to us.
might i note his old duramax had a rhino liner and we are constantly throwing hitches in and out of that truck, gas, tools, the kitchen sink, you name it its been thrown in that truck and have been known to literally slam a 35lbs military hitch for one of our race boats into the back to see how well the bed liner held up and it didnt give, but the bed of the truck gave a dent about 2 inches deep and about a 3 inch diameter so we figured we would stick to rhino for now since no one could give us a reason not toEdited by: IceMan6533
Corsair 06-07-2004, 11:41 PM I have used Line -X since 2000. I haul a lot of nasty stuff and I am impressed with their product. I have only been able to lghtly scratch the surface, but you have to look real close to see it.

Mike_in_Wisc 06-08-2004, 09:18 AM I have the bed rug in mine and am very pleased with it. My neighbor has the spray-in liner, not sure of brand name. But if you are a hunter, BEWARE! Last year he got his elk in Colorado. Of course loaded it in the back. He is still trying to get the blood stains out.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif At least he said it was a elk. I told him it looked like his last date wouldn't cooperate. But he still says it was a elk, and a year later there is still a mess back there.
goody 06-08-2004, 04:36 PM I just picked up my new 2500HD and went right to the Line-X dealer. I've had line-x in all my trucks since 96 and have not had any complaints. I'm also a hunter and the blood stains come out with a pressure washer. They did for me. Goto local car wash. Over the rail costs me $400
se7enracing 06-09-2004, 12:13 PM I will say, I was really impressed with my Line-X in the last Dudge. Just a pain the rear to keep clean and the sandpaper on the body parts was a bit for me... I think I may go with the Bedrug to check it out.. I guess if it is that bad, I can always add the Line-X later. OH, BTW - NOT all Line-X are the same. Talk to people that have had their Line-X done at the place you are taking your truck. My line-X went perfectly. My friends Line-X had to be redone 5 times. Different Line-X franchise... They kept mixing the lining material different. Once they messed it up, it wouldn't adhere correctly. His looked ALOT different as well. Just note, NOT all Line-X and Rhino Liners are the same. They are franchises and operate independently under the franchisors recommendations.
EEEEZY 06-09-2004, 10:24 PM Line-X in mine. Very pleased!
killerbee 06-10-2004, 09:47 AM In Phoenix, love the bedrug. I can touch it, that's improvent. Nothing like it for the drive-in, no ribs on the floor.
onesmokindmax04 06-10-2004, 10:16 PM lot of you guys have taled about the bed rug how long dose it take to dry out when it rain's? looks like water would be just sitin back there for a few days
killerbee 06-10-2004, 10:25 PM It's all synthetic, so it get's as wet as my sons pajamas, nada. Probably does trap water, if worried about corrosion, and maybe not a good choice in rainy places if you aren't using a top.
Here in the desert, a no brainer, lifetime warranty.
Fireman 06-10-2004, 10:40 PM lot of you guys have taled about the bed rug how long dose it take to dry out when it rain's? looks like water would be just sitin back there for a few days
The Bed Rug comes in two sections that are zippered together. The water in the bed drains through the zipper that connects the bed floor section to the wall section. Any water that may remain in the synthetic fibers of the carpet itself evaporates within a short time.
Usually, 20-30 minutes after a shower, my Bed Rug is dry to the touch, and completely dry within an hour or so.

rvtrailerpuller 06-11-2004, 12:06 AM I have a canopy that I pretty much intend to keep on all of the time. I went with the Bed Rug and just love it. It's very comfortable to sleep on as a bed. I have 2 kids who were not very happy when I traded in my Tahoe for my truck until they experienced the room and comfort under the canopy on the Bed Rug. The kids love it and I love it. I have already taken 2 naps on the Bed Rug in the last month (while parked).
I live in the "rainy" Pacific Northwest, but with a canopy the rain is not an issue.
Score one for the comfort and luxury factor in favor of the Bed Rug.
Tsckey 06-11-2004, 12:38 AM The BedRug is not directly comparable to Line-X or Rhino liners, the latter being really heavy duty coatings. But, it is still very rugged and for anything less than maximum abuse it is a very attractive alternative. It also matches the carpeted inside of my shell. I'm not sure what it's made of, but like polypropylene it doesn't absorb water, which drains away very fast, and the underside is not abrasive (it's closed cell foam). I'd get another in a heartbeat ... oh, wait, that's a Chevy slogan....

Kendall69 06-11-2004, 05:15 PM Get a lin-x , you will not be sorry. dealer told m eif I want the line-x off I have to grind it off.
On top of that I put a rubber mat to soften the blows of all the metal I toss in the back.
onesmokindmax04 06-11-2004, 06:42 PM how hard is the bed rug to clean i have atvs that would be in the truck sometimes so mudd would get all over them can you just spray it out? thanks agin for ever ones help.
jmg343 06-11-2004, 10:55 PM i think the line-x is the way to go, if your knees and elbows cant take it than you need to toughen up. If blood stains bother you you shouldnt be a hunter, I love the blood, it reminds me of the kill. However the bed rug has got me thinkin' does it come up the walls of the bed too? On the other hand no bed rug will wrap and protect your bed rails.

If you can use a garden hose, you can clean the Bed Rug!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif
