We have the same problem down at my boss's ranch. poisen and trapps don't work. Want to what does??

Leave the hood open while it sits unused. With the hood closed, the rats think it is a good shelter, leave the hood open, no more shelter.

I use a prodect called "ROPEL". They were chewing my under hood quieting material on both my cars for their nests. ROPEL stopped that from happening but it only stops chewing and not the building of nests. I would certainly use ropel on my wiring and rubber components if I were you. You can get it at ACE or any farm supply store. Good luck

Going through that with a truck that has been sitting for awhile. Got the oil pressure and speedo back, now just need the interior light and door unlock. What a pain!!!! I guess I need to move the truck more often.

I would simply put a box of Decon on the engine some where or on the tire if it's in the garage.Never seen a mouse that would pass up a quick meal.

Purchased a transonic Pro , http://www.bird-x.com/products/trans.html
It is pluged into a wall socket in the barn right now , this unit uses a transformer to power it . The out put voltage is 12 volts , so it is possible to mount it under the hood if it proves to be effective. I probly will update everyone in a week or so if ,or if not , it is effective . If it is ,I will install it and power it from the truck ..

I would be checking your air box also. Those little critters like to make nests in there also. Oh, get a cat!

These Texas field mice/rats are imune to that Decon crap. You gotta use Mole bait. Strichnine laced grain. Kills'em walking away.

What's this Ropel stuff, a spray?

I've also heard that putting a light under the hood keeps them out. Put it on a timer to stay on at dark.

I had them varmits chew up my some firewall insulation. They also built a nest in front of my turbo between the heads. I can see little sticks and crap in there. Don't know how to get it out.

Those sonic devices didn't keep'em out of the cellar ~

They are usually in my air cleaners, too. My trucks and cars are used daily for at least 4 hours. Maybe they like the heat and dark seclusion. Poison seems to reduce the time of nest rebuilding. Have not yet found anything else yet.

Ropel is a spray. Clear liquid that, according to the label, won't bother wiring, etc. Apply initially and a couple days later apply another coat. I have not seen any continued ripping apart of the hood insulation since I sprayed approx a month ago. It will not kill the rodent but sure has stopped them from chewing. I put a couple of traps under the hood on each vehicle and some d-con underneath. Have caught a few and have noticed a decline in catching em--maybe they are getting the hint-ha. Also screened both air boxes to keep em out.

Oh, get a cat!

Or a ferret - they're great on mice and rats - good for rabbits too.

i've seen mice in my detached garage before, but just this past sunday, I was installing my brake contoller and noticed a critter had been in the electrical fuse box under the hood. not as bad as the original poster had on this forum, but the factory sticker was chewed up and i seen little teeth marks around one of the openings.
i couldn't believe my eyes, cause my truck isn't parked in the garage for more than a day or two at a time.
my friend is an exterminator and came over the next day and set 3 different varieties of poison in 5 different spots in the garage.
hopefully this solves this problem.
i'll post my results in a week or two.

What works real well is get some Irish spring soap cut it up and put it around the engine bay those little bas***d will eat up wirring and hoses.
