Anybody had experience with this? Do you know what caused it? What is the fix?

Conditions for Setting the DTC

DTC P0735 sets when the calculated fifth range ratio, steady state, differs from the known fifth range ratio.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The TCM illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).
The transmission defaults to 4th range while diagnostic response is active.
If the shift selector is moved to NEUTRAL, the transmission will shift to NEUTRAL.
If the shift selector is moved to REVERSE, the transmission will shift to REVERSE, unless the transmission is compromised by a direction change. In that case, the transmission will shift to NEUTRAL.
If the shift selector is returned to a forward range and the transmission is compromised by over speeding or direction change, the transmission will lock in NEUTRAL.
DTC P0735 will be stored in TCM history.
The TCM freezes shift adapts (DNA).
The TCM inhibits torque converter clutch (TCC) engagement.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

A scan tool can clear the code from TCM history. The TCM automatically clears the DTC from TCM history if the vehicle completes 40 warm-up cycles without failure.

basically if the tcm sees 100 or more rpm slippage in 5th gear it sets p0735

Do a search for "I limped it"

And welcome to the club. Like Mike said most of us have "been there done that"...

It's at the dealership. I insisted they pull the pan and inspect the clutches. The tranny was running hot on the trip, to and from in two areas where I have never seen high tranny temps in the past, and where I wasn't pushing it. OATs in the 70's on the way in. We'll see what they find, or don't find. Either way, I'm giving some serious thought about upgrading the tranny, piece of mind if nothing else.
