So my buddy and I took the familys camping this past weekend and Sat. my bud left the stereo on until the batterys died.We tried jumping that stupid truck for about two hours the next day and all it would do is puke white smoke out of the exhaust and crank over.We hooked up two vehicles to it and all it would do is crank. We had to drive a total of two hr.s for new batteries. It started right up after the new batteries were in.It really surprised me that my truck wouldn't start his with a jump. Were his weak batteries limiting how much juice could get through? If so,we had all make sure our batteries are ready for winter.

powerjokes use oil pressure to pum p the fuel into the cylinders hydraulically, so they are VERY critical of starting RPM's so they have enough oil pressure to inject the fuel into the cylinder. This is also why the powerstrokes have to have glow plugs to start to help ignite the fuel charge during cranking when fuel pressure is the lowest.

Ok,but why was it sending all of the white mist out of the exhaust?Because the glow plugs didn't have adequate power?

White smoke on start-up is a sign of unburned fuel from low cylinder temps.

How long did you crank while trying to jump and how long in between?

I've seen people crank on these things for about 3 seconds and let off while trying to jumpstart and say it's not the batteries. Sometimes it's taken as long as 10 seconds to get it started.
