: Things overheard in VT GMC Dealer
I was at the dealer today (in Vermont) for some minor "while you wait" service. The waiting room is right in with the new vehicles sales force. They were on the phone trying to locate Duramax trucks for customers. They were trying as far away as Alabama and Texas. Looks like some folks will have to wait for '05 models to get what they want.
ob1kubota 06-04-2004, 09:59 PM I ordered a silverbirch met Crew 4x4 about 8-9 weeks ago,I keep hearing that it should be in another week,It should be in NJ. Ive asked for the VIN,SON,and the other one To see If it can be traced here.I heard "We should have that on Friday for you" today has come and gone,Luckly the rebate got better by 500.00.Any body know why it takes so long? I was origionally told 3 weeks. I was offered good trade in on my superduty and the new one is a few hundred over invoice before rebates so It doesnt pay for me to go anywhere else. Does anybody know the order date cut off period on the 2004's ? Im wondering if The dealer missed the cut off and now we are in holding for the 05's
Sounds like you've got a problem. Check this thread for some information on time frames and tracking orders:

OneSilverTruck 06-04-2004, 11:13 PM OB1...
I ordered mine in April and finally got my VIN number on Tuesday, and should be at the dealers by 6/11, so keep your fingers crossed....
PghFamilyMan 06-05-2004, 01:43 AM I tried to order one in early may and three weeks later my dealer called and stated that it looked like GM wasn't going to take the order because of the 05's coming out soon. I've read in other forums that the cut off dae was the end of April for 04 orders. Now there trying to find me one on the lot somewhere. GOOD LUCK!!!
luvlabs 06-05-2004, 09:52 AM PghFamilyMan,
I ordered mine the day May 8th, the order was entered on May 10th, "picked up" by GM on May 13th, and accepted on May 18th. It is currently scheduled to be built the week of 6/28 (last week of production before shutdown). If the truck is delayed, it will be built as a 2005 and I will be having a less than nice conversation with my dealer about eating the price increase and applying some of his dealer cash to make up for the loss of the rebates.
I believe order cutoff this year was May 11th. If your dealer didn't know that or didn't try to place an order by that date then I think I'd work with another dealer. Also, higher volume GM dealers have a hell of a lot more clout with GM when it comes to getting things ordered. My local dealer is part of a fairly large GM dealer network that moves a ton of GM iron every month. Maybe the fact that my dealer made this a priorty and high on their allocation list helped. (Someone who knows all about the dealer-factory side of things should add some comments).

Frank Blum 06-05-2004, 10:33 PM Having your dealer get you a truck from another is a shot in the dark. Most dealers are not going to give up a good seller. I had both my local dealers try to get me one. They found some but could not get me one. I just moved out in a bigger circle from my home until I found one. My local Chevy dealer has no problem with warranty work on it because I gave him first chance to sell me one. Later!
Big Daddio Tx 06-06-2004, 01:03 PM Hey everyone,
I guess I'll have to count my blessings! I walked into a dealership here in the DFW Metroplex and they had 3 D/A's in Big Dooley's, and were willing to cut a big deal. They were having a 'Red Tag' sale, and someone mismarked this one and gave me a $9500 discount off the $44615 MSRP. I know those numbers are pretty bogus, but still a pretty good deal considering the truck I got.
If anyone is seriously looking, let me know and I'll be glad to pass my salesman's name along to you. He's a real 'straight shooter'... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

SmoknDmax 06-06-2004, 09:58 PM My dealer in Southern Wisconsin tried for 1.5 weeks to get any dealer within 200 miles to trade them a truck. All had the same story....trucks with the Duramax are in short supply and they don't want to give them up. My dealer gave me the names of the nearest dealers that had the trucks I wanted and told me to contact them directly to get the truck.
I picked it up May 24th.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
PghFamilyMan 06-06-2004, 10:51 PM I hope I don't have to find another dealer but I guess I will if it comes to that. I already tried and none of them would come close to the price the dealer I'm using now is giving me on the truck and my trade. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!
ob1kubota 06-07-2004, 01:28 PM Just checked on my truck with the local dealer,My order was placed on April 15th 04.I called again today and they were having trouble with the computer."Ill call you back.probally a run around but it was a very good price if I ever recieve the truck
MudFlap 06-07-2004, 11:31 PM I just went to my dealer here in NW Ark. and they had several duramax diesels in stock. I bought a silver birch 3500 crew cab off the lot.
exford 06-09-2004, 12:45 PM I just bought a Sandstone 3500 SRW CC LT D/A of the lot. There were 3 other CC D/A 2500's, but not what I wanted. This is in a town with a population of 5000. The dealers in the state had them also. Try the chevy website locate vehicle option. This will give a fairly accurate inventory for dealers in your area.
EEEEZY 06-09-2004, 10:20 PM I spent months searching and having 2 local dealers search Southern NY, NJ, Eastern PA, Western CT & MA, and came up with nothing that was close to what I wanted. Finally, I changed my search zip to my old home town in Upstate VT to include Northern NY and all of New England and found just what I wanted at O'Connor's GMC in Augusta, ME. Bought the truck over the phone, drove the 360 miles each way to pick it up and I can't stop smiling! While at O'Connor, I learned that they are the largest GMC dealer in New England and they sell more GMC Sierra's that any other dealer in the country! They get orders from all over! In Maine!!! They had over 1,200 trucks in their inventory. We took a tour and had to drive through the rows of trucks. It was like the parking lot at JFK! If your from the Northeast and can't find what you want, give them a try. I dealt with a great salesman named Luke.
MT Dmax Squid 06-13-2004, 11:29 AM I bought a Silver Birch 2004.5 4X4 2500HD DM/A EXC/LB LS through a dealership here in VA Beach... The first time he said he located the truck that I wanted they spoke too soon cause the other dealer would not give it up.... They ended up having to go as far out as Ohio to find it and had to buy 3 other cars off the lot just to get the Duramax...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif I am glad that the dealer is holding good on the promise... I should see it some time this next week.... They even let me drive around a 2003 1500HD LT while I wait.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Got mine from O'Connor also, but I only live about an hour away. Their slogan statewide is "it's worth the drive" . . . guess you solidified that for them!! They do have an impressive lot. I think 3/4 of the population of Maine drives trucks, so it's no wonder why they have so many in stock.
ctgmcduramax 06-20-2004, 10:10 PM Whats their zip code to do a gm buy power inventory search ?
