I'm working on my 2006 LLY Express van...installing a tranny temp and EGT guages. I plan to install the EGT post turbo in the downpipe. Is this "proper thinking", and where is the "best location"? I'm looking at a spot right behind the exhaust header and pipe on the passenger side. The heat shield has a cutout there, and I can easily cut it out a little to make room for the pyrometer. It's about 6-8" downstream from the turbo outlet. Will the temp readings be of any use that far downstream?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
Jeff

The best place to put the EGT gauge is in the exhaust manifold. I have never seen a probe in the downpipe but i have also not seen any vans either. Try doing a search on the topic. There's not to much about the D/A in the vans but there is some...

after turbo is ok but you will have to weld in a bung you cannot tap it (too thin) and the reading will be a few hundred degrees lower. I would and did put it in the exhaust manifold. Just leave it idling while drilling and tapping and all the shavings blow all over you instead of through the turbo. Oh and wear some safety glasses.
