: Can the 6.5 be made it a pulling truck?

I am trying to make up my mind as to whether the 6.5 can be made into a pulling truck for pulling rv's constantly. Some say the engine is too wimpy or not up to the task of constant pulling. With some mods I would think that the 6.5 is a capable truck. What about you? What do you think? Any use their truck for constant pulling? If so what kind of MPG and weight when pulling? Also mods done?

Thanks,

Tony

Most definately, what are you looking to pull, how much money you got, more money= more pulling power, After about $5K store bought stuff self install; I'm pulling 12K GN trailer effortlessly in the low to midlands of MS-AL. Go looking for my 6.5 performance mod thread to see how I went in steps to get there. http://dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9103&KW

You don't have to go as far as i went but once you start it's addictive, I'm running around 240 hp with mods will oneday lower compression and go for 300 maybe twin turbos for a bit more, that said; I think a 6.5 could easily handle 8K load if driven conservatively and 97+ HO pump & dual thermostat cooling mods, exhaust/downpipe/intake, PMD/FSD cooler.

18mpg with 3:73 gears empty @ 70-75mph, 13-15mpg 75+ depending how much above 75+ http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif, 13 mpg towing 12K 70-75mph

Some welding skills and junkyard diving finesse easily done under $1500, PM Quantum Mechanic the site's resident DIY/scrounger big on doing more for less special projects talent.Edited by: Turbine Doc
