How many gallons of fuel do you have left when your low fuel light comes on? I have a short bed if it makes a difference.

Do you have a perfomance box? Like juice, quad etc?

My experience,,,,,Not Much!

After running out twice, I got the 46 gallon tank installed,http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Fuel Gauge seems like its not very accurate.

I have only gotten low enough once for the light to come on. When I filled it I put in 25 gallons.

packfan----NOT MUCH FUEL LEFT (LOL!!!!)---The fuel tanks on our short bed trucks are way to small (oem). I've never had to use them but I carry two 5 gal. fuel cans when I'm going somewhere I feel there might be a problem finding a source of clean diesel. I always refuel when I reach the half tank point ( when possible ). It's just as cheap to run on the top half as it is to run on the bottom half.------------------later--------------Phil

I have ran it down 2 times to show "LOW" in the range setting. Around 30 miles left it will go to "LOW". Last time I filled up at "LOW" it took 25.75 gallons. I think the light in the fuel gauge comes on around 50 miles left to empty. The fuel gauge needle shows dead center on the red hash mark. I feel that GM's gauges are really accurate, 6 trucks and all of the gauges react the same. Just don't push it too much, unless you like walking.

My experience with a short bed is if your light comes on, you better be pulling into a fueling station about 5 minutes ago!!! My tank never goes below 1/2 now since running out twice. First time I traveled 25km before truck died after light came on, and the second time I traveled 29km then truck died! My advice, don't push your luck, fuel up before light comes on!!

My light came on and then ran out about 10 miles later. I do have a edge programmer though and bigger tires. That might be why, not sure.

Ditto what CRUSHER said. One by one you will see the merits of doing this. Later! Frank

I had the light come on twice (fuel gauge read zero), DIC said it had about 30 miles left. Filled within a few miles and determined had about 2-3 gallons left. I don't push it anymore, although I have never run dry.

Normaly, I have 100 km left when I'm not loaded. This has been repeated several times. After 100km, usualy, 120 liters of fuel will fit in out of 128 liters I think.

Well, My CC LB (34 gallon tank) had 2 gallons left in the tank when I filled it up this weekend after driving 20 miles with the "get out and walk " light on... FWIW, I've found my DIC to be quite accurate. It wasn't in the begining, but it seems to have "learned".

That's not a low fuel light it's a "your out of fuel, pull of the road" light.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

FWIW it's not just Diesels that do this. My friends 2500 4x4 short bed CC 6.0 gasser ran out the other nite. Low Fuel lite came on when pulling his boat outta the water, he lives 15 miles from the ramp - and didn't make it home...

as others have said, when you see the Low Fuel sign, you had better hope the next thing you see is a gas station!

mine came on only once when i was pulling the fiver....shortly thereafter the dic shouts..low fuel...i had to go several miles uphill...was beginning to pray to st christopher..needless to say when she hits one third left...i start looking for fuel ...running out with one of these is going to be a sob..later bob

ps..i cant believe gm put such a small tank in these trucks....maybe we should all run dry and let them pay under warranty...maybe theyll get the point...maybe notEdited by: bob camire

I've gone another 75 Km (45 miles) after the light came on.

Same here. I hit 40 miles unloaded highway driving on the low fuel light just the other day.....Its not something worth worring about though! You shouldnt have to consider your MEGA filter your secondary tank!

Fuel light came on yesterday so I found the closest station that had diesel.

Put in exactly 26 gallons on a 26 gallon tank.

Interesting responses. In my longbed, I don't think I've ever put in more than 30.5 gallons after the Low Fuel light came on and stayed on for 15 miles (i.e., distance to get to a station). The first time was when I was towing, and I was a little stressed because I thought I had miscalculated how much fuel I needed to get back to civilization. I'm still conditioned by warning lights to get anxious and get to a station ASAP, and carry a 5-gal jug when towing long-distance http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif. I like the buffer that my truck has in this regard.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gifSometimes mine comes on and I put in 24 gallons and others it doesn't and I put in 24 gallons. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif The only consistant thing is it's inconsistancy.

Every Chevy I have had, I was able to drive miles witht he fuel light on. We joke about it. Yesterday I must ahve drove 30 plus miles with it on trying to make the dealer berfore they closed. Same with gasser, never ran out of fuel when I thought for sure I was calling for gas.
