Emissions Testing Procedures
Is your vehicle required to be emissions tested?
All Texas registered vehicles are required to receive an annual inspection. All inspections include a comprehensive safety inspection, however some vehicles are required to have an emissions test in addition to the safety inspection.
Which vehicles are required to have the emissions test?
1. Vehicles registered in designated county. Designated counties include:
Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson and El Paso counties.
2. Gasoline powered vehicles. Diesel powered vehicles and motorcycles are exempt from the emissions standards, but are still required to have the annual safety inspection.
3. Vehicles between 2 - 24 years old OR upon expiration of the 2 year initial inspection sticker

Austin tends to be the liberal, yuppie hangout so some tree huggers are probably on their city council.

Gassers between 2 and 24 yaers have an emissions test. Motorcycles, diesels and 25 years and older are safety only.

'95 and older have dyno 4 gas test, '96 and up are threw the DLC. '95 and older 4wd or 8600# gvw are 2 gas idel and high idle test.

Sorry, I was in a hurry. Diesels have safety only, BUT do require a visual inspect of emmision componants; ie. egr, cat, cold air intake... they should all be there if they came from the factory, but most inspectors don't realize that diesels have these things, such as egr and cats. so you may get away with deleteing them.

O'ya, inspect is $12.50 on diesels instead of 39.50 for gassers.
