: Drove a LLY and.......
KEVPOPPAPUMP 06-03-2004, 10:45 PM Today I test drove a Silver Birch GMC Sierra SLE Duramax.
The question I have is the GMC dealer fleet dept. (basically the only dealer with over 3 Duramax Sierra Ext. Cabs in So Cal) would not come down from $2000 over invoice no matter what. Is this normal for Duramax Sierrras or what? I like this truck alot and would buy it in a heartbeat if it were $500 over invoice. I told the dealer this and they kept going on and on about the Duramax relibility and more about GMC customer service being top notch (i.e. paying for food and hotel if left stranded out of town)http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif. Basically the Out The Door total was slightly under sticker price of $41,925.00
Is this supposed to be a deal?
GMC-2002-Dmax 06-03-2004, 10:54 PM Nope...........
Most have been able to negotiate to invoice on these........
Tell him 2004 production has stopped 2005 production will be starting and the rebates now are

dpower 06-03-2004, 10:57 PM Absolutely not. Don't beleive their bs. Set your price, leave and tell them to call you when they are ready to talk sense. Tell them you are sold 500 over invoice, they will call you within a week. I suspect the market will be flooded with the 2005 model in the not so distant furture.
tbone1227 06-03-2004, 10:58 PM They can pretty much go down to invoice and then some if they have the ability and means - depending on who you are working with and what level theyre at with the dealer. Mine listed for $48,500 i believe and i got it for $42,000, and its an LT CC fully loaded 4x4, and i made them throw in nerf bars and a spray on bed liner before i would agree...keep working with them or move on, you will find what you want for the price
McRat 06-03-2004, 11:03 PM I paid $200 over invoice at Irvine GMC. After all the discounts, it came to about $10,000 under MSRP/conventional finance.
But you know? I love my truck. I would have paid more for it. I have a Corvette in the garage, but I like driving my truck better. And that's saying a LOT.
OneSilverTruck 06-03-2004, 11:12 PM Mine is currently in transit to the dealer. It is a cc, 4 wheel drive, diesel LT. I believe the sticker is around 48 and the out the door price including taxe, tag, title, etc will be between 41k and 42k. so the price was really around 38 before all of that.
Price the truck out on www.carsdirect.com (http://www.carsdirect.com) , this will give you a reasonable idea of what you can expect to pay...
Sounds high to me. Ordered my slt 4x4 cc d/a out of northern Idaho. 300.00 under invoice before tax/title/lics - as their slogan goes -"Hassle Free". With the 05's being built the dealers won't want to be sitting on any 04's - JMHO.
Mofun 06-04-2004, 12:02 AM I don't know what my invoice price was but I got almost 9k off the sticker on my extended cab short bed GMC. Out the door for just under 33k. I just bought mine 3 weeks ago...I was pretty amazed at the price since I couldn't find a used 03 for under 30.
Harley99 06-04-2004, 12:17 AM The MSRP on my truck was 41,900. No haggle I got it for 33,400. Sounds like you need to find a new dealer. As you can see by my sig this was not a stripped truck. I would keep looking the deals are out therehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
KEVPOPPAPUMP 06-04-2004, 12:40 AM The fleet director showed me on the dealer search that this was one of I believe 4 SLE Extended cab 4wd D/A in So Cal. They didn't even want to take my name for future reference when I said expectation was $500 over invoice. I will attempt to call them next week and see if the truck is still on the lot and possibly make the offer again but I doubt they'll budge.
They stated to me: don't be fooled by what others pay in other states. This is CA and dealers get premiums for D/A Sierras. Whats going to happen is if I cant get a good price on the GMC, I'm getting the Ford, which ranked 2nd out of the big 3 I drove. BTW I did talk with other GMC dealers in So Cal including Irvine and they are all giving me the same pitch.
tbone1227 06-04-2004, 12:41 AM Yep, ask to see the invoice - the dealer gets a rebate that goes against the invoice and that comes directly from GM, so that can basically go invoice minus rebate and still sell you a truck - wait it out, i just checked my purchase agreement and it was $42079 out the door which is a far cry from sticker
who66 06-04-2004, 12:44 AM sticker was 42,000.?? paid under 32,000.00 at the GMC dealer in Farmingto NM a few months back. Thats cause I work their, but any now could get at least 3/4 of that or more.
Dmax Tim 06-04-2004, 07:19 AM Kev ask if they will honor GM supplier discount.

Here's what happened to me buying a truck in SoCal:
Randy Thompson at Irvine GMC said he would get my Sierra for Invoice + $200. When all the paperwork was through, he was a man of his word. That was the price I paid BEFORE rebates and discount financing. MSRP was $49k, and I drove it off the lot for under $43k including all taxes with 0% financing. I saw the invoice, which was $42k IIRC, then I used the GM Card discount, but took the financing instead of the rebate. The financing was worth over $5000 on a 60m loan. I put zero down out of pocket.
OPPSSS. I should add that I ordered my truck because I wanted very specific options and color. It took about 6 weeks.Edited by: McRat
Backcountry 06-04-2004, 10:31 AM Kev, small world. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Any chance of going out of state to purchase the truck. Is there another dealer in an hours or so driving distance? Most dealers will almost always go to invoice price. If you arent asking big money for a trade or anything like that what you're asking for is very reasonable. My sticker was $46K, with the $1k back, I got mine for $39,700
Also try going back at month's end!
KEVPOPPAPUMP 06-04-2004, 11:24 AM The problem is that I need to buy a truck ASAP since my insurance company will only pay for a rental for 5 days after I deposit the settlement check.
As far as incentives go the Fleet Director told me that the truckfest is over and unless there is a household member with a GM vehicle, the only incentive is $2500 cash back and my Auto Show in Motion $500 coupon. GM buy power website updated and this seems right. If she told me $300 over invoice, my OTD price would've been around 39k which I though is good for the SLE equipped Sierra 4wd. After emailing around various GMC dealers, I have almost concluded that the Sierra is out of my price league. The Dodge and Ford both can get me OTD for under $38k. Although they are not as well equipped with options, I can live with it. Really like that Sierra though, and the dealer probably knew that and wouldn't break on the price.Edited by: KEVPOPPAPUMP
Dmax Tim 06-04-2004, 12:47 PM Kev, I will repeat again, ask if they will honor GM supplier price.
Let one of us know and we can have the # in a couple of minutes and u can go buy the truck.

McRat 06-04-2004, 12:54 PM I test drove the Ford quite a bit before I bought the GMC. I'm glad I got the GMC. It handles better on the street, and for me is more comfortable. But the Ford is very nice as well, you can't go wrong with either one.
Before you consider the Dodge, do some research. Some owners are reporting poor mileage, and I don't know if the problem has been addressed.

Since they limit us to 2/ month it really cut me back.
KEVPOPPAPUMP 06-04-2004, 01:18 PM Will do and thanks Dmax Tim. Unless they bite and the deal is good to pass up, I'm going to wait it out till next week. Regardless, I'll post what the dealer replies.
PghFamilyMan 06-04-2004, 09:06 PM Dmax Tim,
I've been trying to get a new truck for months now. I had one ordered and then they called me and told me that GM wasn't taking anymore 04 orders. So here I am now. The dealer found a GMC 2500HD 4x4, CC, Short Bed, SLT, D/A. The sticker price is 47,400. I will find out tomorrow morning if he can get it from another dealer. There is someone else looking at it and they are giving him till tom. to make a decision on it. They are quoting me 39,200 for the truck. Is it possible to get one of those GM Supplier #'s. If so, then I will ask my dealer tomorrow if he will honor it. Thanks
Dmax Tim 06-04-2004, 10:45 PM pgh, check and see if they will honor it first and if they do we can get u one.
These are non-transferable and we are limited to 2/ month so they are a little harder to get.
PghFamilyMan 06-05-2004, 01:09 AM Tim, I will ask tom. when they call me. Thanks alot!!! Just curious, do you think the GMS price will be lower then 39,200?
I did research on what was a reasonable deal in my area by going to www.carsdirect.com (http://www.carsdirect.com)
Note that you can put in different zip codes, so you can see what is a better deal in a different area.
By using carsdirect as a research tool, I decided to buy my truck in NJ as the Vermont dealers were just asking too much.
KEVPOPPAPUMP 06-05-2004, 04:40 AM Well the dealer replied back to me. The fleet director talked to the GM and he said NO WAY on the supplier discount. DMAX's are too rare in the Ext Cab form in So Cal so they say.
Oh well at least I tried. On a better note, I am getting a hell of a deal on a new Ford PS 6.0. It is about $3700 less than the GMC Sierra I drove.
Thanks DMax Tim for the opportunity to use you supplier discount! I wish it worked out!
Kampzite 06-05-2004, 11:23 AM You guys are sooooo lucky. They don't deal on diesels in California, they can barely keep them in stock, so the Dealers have the attitude that if you don't like the price, the next guy will. Went to several dealers before I even got offered to drive a diesel.
So to the guys that got the good deals I salute you, me, all I got were the factory incentives, that just barely covered taxes and licenses.

I just think GMC & Chevy does not ship enough Duramax units to CA. So the dealer knows that if they have 2-3 units on the lot they can always get a premium. Kinda like the Toyota Prius Hybrid. A buddy of mines girlfriend just paid $10K over sticker for one and out the door it was just at $40k! It sux that I missed Truck Fest, that would've been the kicker for me to buy the D/A Sierra. The dealer wouldn't even meet me half way on that. That says something!
PghFamilyMan 06-05-2004, 04:06 PM Tim,
Talked to the dealer today and they will honor the GMS certificate. I will PM you all my info!! Thanks a BUNCH!!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
KEVPOPPAPUMP 06-06-2004, 06:14 PM Well this is what the dealer emailed me after asking what he can do to get me to buy the GMC Sierra SLE Duramax for $2k over invoice:
"The Duramax is demonstrably better than the competition ... and you seem
to believe that. But you're not willing to pay for it. Others are. That's
why diesel Sierras are scarce and command a premium. We're giving you the
best deal you're going to find, but they cost what they cost. If you're not
willing to pay for courtside, you get the cheap seats. You'll still be at
the game, but it's not the same."
Sorry to say that this email has really turned me off on getting the D/A that I really wanted. You'll find me in the cheap seats!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Have you thought about going out of state to find your DMAX/ALLY. The dealer in Nampa, Idaho seems to have an abundance of them when I bought mine. If you are interested I will include the name and phone number of that dealer, couldn't hurt to check with them anyway.

Just ask for anyone in sales and I'm sure that they can tell you of the availability of any Duramax, they deal in Chevy and GMC's
Paul
KEVPOPPAPUMP 06-06-2004, 08:04 PM I don't know how that would work tax wise. It seems like it would be a hassle and vehicle transport would definately cost some bucks.
Harley99 06-06-2004, 08:12 PM KEVPOPPAPUMP
I'm sure that you would want to come here to pick it up. Not deal with any dealer in SoCal. The dealer here is a best price dealer, meaning my truck had a MSRP of $41,900.00 their price was $33,400.00 no hassle. Tax would be charged at the Cal rate. My son-in-law also lives in Northern Cal and while here bought a truck and registered it to Cal without a problem, and drove it home. Just a thought if you are having problems in finding what you want there and or the dealers there are not willing to deal
Paul
I got my 04 last week, Got gms + 3500 incentives( with bonus cash)
Went from $41900 to $31XXX ( I forget the change).
I feel bad for the people in SoCal. Come up to New York, I'll sell
you mine and just get another one.

The upsetting thing about this whole ordeal is the same dealer that let me walk emails me to see what they can do to get me to buy the Sierra I test drove. I told them lower the price. They said no way and basically stated if you want the best you have to pay for it because others will. They are really turning me off! Actually I was mildly stating what the dealer told me. The actual words or what i remember were: if you want to play with the big boys you gotta pay for it. Then when I told him it was over my budget and I would probably buy the competition, he stated that I would be in the cheap seats and not courtside because I didn't want to pay for it. If he told me this in person I would've probably punched him in the face! I think I'll just F with him now by saying I give in and will pay and will be down on Friday night sometime and just not show.

There is another dealer in Idaho that a guy at work buys all his vehicles through. He just bought a Dodge from them and saved enough money, because the local dealer would not work with him - sound familiar, that he could buy a plane ticket there and drive his new truck home.

Good Luck!!
I have been advised by many people as to buying out of state and bringing it back into CA. I am told CA makes it a hassle due to out of state vehicles not being CA emmission compliant even diesels. I can see DMV here charging fees to make the overall price over what I would've paid here in state. Plus, have you ever bought a one way flight ticket lately? Feds will be all over you holding you up a thte airport thinking you are a terrorist or something.
I found one more dealer that has (1) Sierrra just like what I want minus the ONStar and with XM instead. I will see whats up with them. I am not expecting any better though!
If you get a truck from any of the big three that was manufactured after 01-01-04, you shouldn't have any problems with California DMV over emission stuff like used to be the case.
New EPA regulations for diesels that went into effect on 01-01-04 are the reason for the new engine variants and they are supposed to be 50 State compliant.
If you do elect to go out of State, you may want to double check with DMV, but IIRC, the LLY can go into CA with no problems based on it not being CA emission equipted.
PghFamilyMan 06-10-2004, 11:32 PM DmaxTim,
Haven't heared anything form ya, just curious if you can get that Suppliers certificate for me. If not let me know and I'll check other places. I know they are hard to come by!!!!

mbrown2 06-22-2004, 12:01 AM Kev,
Not sure if you already got your truck, but California is like all other states...they will deal. If you are not set on GMC, and would go Chevy, call Jay Photoglou at Camino Real Chevrolet....Talked to Jay earlier about one, he is going to trade one of his for the color I want...sticker is 48K, after rebates and deal, the price should be 36.5K before tax and license...
LanduytG 06-22-2004, 08:04 AM MSRP was $41315 and by the time it was all said and done the certificate and insentives brought down to $33093. Used trucks I was looking at were that much and more.
Got mime from Ed Martin GMC in Anderson, IN. Make sure you talk to "GE". They sell a lot of trucks to out of state buyers.

fuel007one 06-30-2004, 10:32 PM I was interested in GM but the dealers' inventories were pathetic and most didn't even have any crewcabs in stock. I will never under GM's distribution...just checked my invoice and bought mine with every available option (XM is nice) except snowplow. Out the door =$42,100.10 of which $3400 was taxes on May 30th this year.
I hail from California originally and would either threaten or follow through on buying one out of state, flying southwest to pick it up, and drive it back to California for a nice break in period. MSRP, Invoice, etc all mean nothing given the huge rebates going into the 2005 releases...

Glad to see that you talked with GE. I knew that he would set you up with a deal. He even said you and your son bought a trailer from him also. He called me to say thanks for recommending you to them.
As far as for anyone else in the central Indiana area or even surrounding areas, Ed Martin's in Anderson is great to work with and is willing to travel to get the truck that you want. Just stop in or call them and ask for "GE".
Topgas 07-04-2004, 08:58 AM Kev,
Good idea buying the Ford, if GM dealers want to play that game, they don't deserve your business. If I get the run around next year, I'll go right by GM. These things are way over priced to begin with.
NEVR L8 07-04-2004, 03:40 PM I bought mine from a dealer in Montana. All the paperwork was done before I got there. I flew up to Billings, they picked me up at the airport, took me to the dealer and I could have been out of there in 15 minutes except we got to yacking.
Drove it home to Reno. The local dealers wouldn't discount the Dmax's at all. The flight cost was minimal considering the amount I saved.
I don't believe the actual emission controls are different for California than the rest of the states. You just need to make sure there is a Califonia emissions tag on the truck. If you have an out of state dealer order one make sure they include the California emissions label. No biggee.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
