I have a chance to get any length of 3,4,5,6 inch stainless steel pipe...
my question is....would it be worth it to go bigger just after the muffler?
I have a superchips programmer and am running the 50hp boost, and have not gone any higher until I improve my exhust.
I am not a pipe welder, and would have a local guy fab up the supports and figure out a way to get out of the muffler.
any and all opinions welcome

Ask Mackin...........http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
He has a 5" sewer pipe going on his truck soon..........after the muffler.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
Custom Made........
As far as a 50HP program.........it should not cause you much trouble.....just watch EGT's as some programs run "HOTTER" than others.
I would go with a 4" pipe from the turbo back thru the muffler then either 4" or 5" back to the exit behind the tire.
If you go for it .. post some pics.

I don't think you would reduct EGT's by any considerable amount.
Some others have suggested the OEM muffler is a major restriction. I put a 4" CAT back system on mine and got about a 150 degree reduction at 70mph cruise.

All I am saying is since this guy has 5-inch stainless pipe, why cant anyone make a full system out of it??
Kennedy's system looks awesome!!!!, but why cant anyone make it out of stainless?
I have had two trucks (Ram and Suburban) with new dual exhaust that was not stainless and both look like complete crap after one winter here in PA and begin to have holes in 2 years. I just cannot buy another NON stainless exhaust after wasting my money twice before and i will wait till i can get a stainless 5inch system. Kennedy's 5inch looks soo sweet but I can let myself not but stainless. I am not discrediting kennedy's but it is just a personal peeve of mine.
So if anyone knows where to get a 5inch stainless system let me know so i can order it today!!!!!!!

One winter in IL with me plowing and running down salted roads/plowing in salted lots and my Kennedy system still looks good. Had it for close to a year total. Given the opportunity I probably woulda bought a nice polished system thoguh for the added "bling"http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
Thinking of sending off my tip/tail to get chromed.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
And good luck trying to get someone to bend any of that pipe. And if they can I doubt it will be mandrel bent. You will have to stick it together with mitered elshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif The factory muff is the biggest restriction, if your going low buck just change that IMO. Fabing up big inch pipe would be a PITA. I can weld/have a welder and even if I got all the pipe free I would still just buy a system as aposed to buying all the 90* bends and doing all the mitering/fitting. After you get the whole thing tacked/test fitted then you gota pull it off and weld it all together. No thankshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif
Edit: Dosnt quad offer a 5" SS system???Edited by: ratlover

Wait....I am confused, so you are saying you can mandrel bend regular 5inch steel pipe, but you cant mandrel bend 5inch stainless steel pipe?....does not make much sense to me....

No, just saying that your chance of finding someone local that can mandrel bend any pipe are slim IMO and them being able to do 5" is even more slim. He may get lucky though. If he cant find someone to bend the pipe/fit it up then he will have to get some mandrel bent U peices or 90*'s or what ever and slice and dice on em and tack em and the straight together to get the proper curves. If you got all the pipe and the bends free and paid someone to slice and dice and weld it up. It would be it would be more expensive than just buying a system. Building a system that way is a major PITA and you will pay dearly for the labor i would think. I have done it before on my own stuff to save some $$$. Plus with SS you dont want to be using a MIG with regular wire and a mix gas, I would want to TIG it just because its easier to not get too much penetration. If you MIG it though witch you could you would need the right wire.....Actually with all the welds he would need for all the bends I would TIG it all even if it were mild. All of that will add to the cost. And I also would go to the down pipe. Under the truck is pretty much a straight shot anyway. The factory Muff is the biggest problem I believe anywho....
Now if he were to buy one 6" by what ever stock is reducer and one 6" 90* and cut a hole in the bed for some cool man stackshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif That would be easier.....Edited by: ratlover
