:confused:I developed an Air leak some where and so being the more anal retentive jerk that I am I removed the intake manifold to insure all the lines in the injector pump were on tight. I replaced all rubber fuel lines assembled the thing emplaced a new fuel filter Bled the system and fired it up. Now I recently replaced the fuel pump and put new rubber there also. the only rubber I haven't replaced is that short piece on top the Injector pump. I noticed what appeared to be a small drip coming from the fuel filter assembly. I am very carefull about putting these on. My question is.. is there rubber on top the tank
and has any one ever had a problem of a fuel leak around the water sensor towards the filter when it is mounted? I'll replace the Rubber on top the injector but it sure appears to be leaking from the filter. Any help here would be appreciated as I am drawing air like crazy fromthe filter when I bleed it and that continues even while running and letting it run into a container.

Hi
maybe your probleme is not the rubber hose but the steel fuel line itself , you know the rust syndrome.;)

You can pressurise (2-3 psi) your fuel delivery systeme and check for the leak.

PS ; yes there is a rubber hose on top the tank

Yep, there's a rubber hose on the top of the tank. Two of them, actually, one for the feed and one for the return.

The short piece of rubber line that comes out the top of the injection pump is the return line.

On occasion, there have been problems with leaks in the fuel filter assembly. One way to test this is to bypass the filter assembly and see if the problem goes away... I would recommend putting some sort of filter in the bypass to prevent ruining your IP if you do that test.

You do need to carefully inspect the steel lines as well, as tigman pointed out. Not only can the rust, but on occasion they have been know to crack.

Hope this helps!

I charged the sytem up then took a mirror and waited for the drip. It appears to be starting at the fitting for the fuel line that attaches to the Fuel block Not the upper line that goes to the Injector pump but the lower line looks like a constant weep that turns into a drip looks lik somehow I must have lost the seal or it vibrated loose. It feels tight but it is leaking there. Anyway I'll replace the rubber on the tank as thet are old and replace the return line on the injector pump also but it appears the Fuel assembly is bad. Now to hunt for one of those. Yikes.

Yep found it thanks alot. I am replacing all the rubber everywhere so if this ain't it it could be the pump. It happened overnight so who knows.

Got the one off e-bay for 9.95 plus shipping. Installed it and fired it up after bleeding system. Then fired it up. No leaks. Bought a Bosch return line kit threw everything on and fired it up and let it sit for a day and she fired right up. I guess that was it. The return line fitting on the bottom of the fuel filter assembly where it is joined to the block itself somehow came loose or fractured. Small leak. Dumb luck I guess but all appears to be fine. And hell I have all new rubber on it now. Hahahahahh.

You might also check the fuel heater in the fuel filter block, I have found mine has a rubber o ring in it and the heater was very loose and would turn real easy. I replaced the o ring and it was very tight and it stoped alot of the air in the lines.

Just as a matter of course this winter when I have nothing better to do. So far its been a few weeks now and she fires right up everytime runs much smoother when warm and it idles great. Fuel mileage increased back to 24-26 on the hiway and 19 overall. Seems to be running lots better. Thanks for all the info.
