: Predatory Tranny question
Dutch110 08-23-2006, 11:40 AM I have the predator set on the 65 hp tune. I also have a BS installed. Whent to pick up the trailer this morning to take it in for inspection. All aluminum so it only weighs around 3k empty. I put the tranny in tow haul mode and it immediately started slipping the one/two shift. Took it out of tow haul mode and it shifted fine - no slipping. Anyone ever experience this before? Would the increase in line pressure going to tow / haul coupled with the tune cause it to slip under such a light load? And if it would then why would it not slip in regular mode?
Dutch110 08-23-2006, 12:03 PM LOL I just noticed the title of my post "Predatory Tranny"
BudTX 08-23-2006, 12:06 PM How long have you had the Predator loaded and on the 65 setting? The tranny has to "learn" in both regular and T/H mode to calm the shifting down. It could be that this was a learning experience for your tranny if it had never seen T/H on the 65 setting.
Dutch110 08-23-2006, 12:22 PM Yes this was the first time in TH with the predator installed. I was kind of hoping that was the case - that it had to learn the new tune. I had similiar issues with the Edge EZ - but those were more rough shifting issues. The slipping is what threw me a curve ball
jmg343 08-23-2006, 12:25 PM It was just learning.
Dutch110 08-23-2006, 12:40 PM KTM thumpers rule.

jmg343 08-23-2006, 02:10 PM That one especially. SXCs are nasty. I love my 525 EXC and 520 SX but need to get an SXC and get on the pavement.
Dutch110 08-23-2006, 04:49 PM I love it. I was shopping for an SMC when one of the local dealers sold me the SXC at a really good price. Converted it over using some nice components and spent about the same as I would have if I had bought the SMC. I use it to commute on and to instruct on at two of the smaller tracks we go to. Since I started using it at the track three of my fellow instructors have gotten Tards as well. Four of us out there duking it up is more fun than a barrel full of drunk hookers. I will say I am looking to get a track only 450 SMR. Much more flickable.
66flh 08-23-2006, 05:01 PM How heavy is it?
Dutch110 08-23-2006, 05:13 PM How heavy is it?
I haven't weighed it but I would guess high 200's? Maybe 280 or 290?
txguppy 08-23-2006, 06:58 PM Back on topic. Your tranny is still learning. It'll straighten out. Watch out, it may start "preying" on Dodges and Fords."
RideRed 08-23-2006, 08:40 PM Gotta love the Ktooms.

Given the title of the thread I'm just glad the "off topic" route it took was towards bikes and not somewhere else
I have a long tow ahead of me this weekend. That should give it enough time to do some learnin'.
kylant 08-24-2006, 11:50 AM my tranny still slips occasionally on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. there is no rhyme or reason to it. the tune has been loaded for a long time now. tranny temps seem to run higher also. i just changed to transynd and a deep pan with the deep filter and Mike L. filter lock. any body have any other ideas why this thing slips like it does?

What kind of tune are you running, and what kind of shape are your clutches in?
kylant 08-24-2006, 06:24 PM my tune is the predator 65, just as the starter of this topic. my truck only has 9,500 miles on it. the tranny has never limped, i drive it very easy.
i have noticed the tranny only slips when it is hot, by hot I mean 170* it has only reached 200* one time. that was towing up hill in 90* about 2 months ago.
i figured with transynd and a deep filter, it would be fine
thanks for the help.
06GMCLBZDMAX 08-25-2006, 05:36 PM I love KTM's too..........especially when they pull up on my right side!
Tutts 08-30-2006, 08:20 PM Mine did exactly the same thing that yours did. Just let off the throttle so it doesn't slip too much, and it will learn very quickly, mine did.
Dutch110 09-04-2006, 03:24 PM Did a 300 mile round trip with the trailer attached this weekend. The tranny eventually relearned and shifted really nice.
