NE 1 know what the fuel rail pressure should be on a 6.6L. The engne starts with starting fluid and stays running but won't start with out it. I am thinking it is a fuel pump issue. Anyone have any suggestions

Same thing happened to my 04 the fuel pump is gone. They changed the pump first then the injectors. This was only a few months ago.. the truck is now in the shop again with the same problem. My truck would start on starting fluid then I could drive it as long as I wanted but it would smoke like an old JOHN DEERE.

My 2003 3500 did the same thing. The injectors were bad. Try to prime the fuel filter before starting. That is how I got mine to start. Starting fluid can damage your engine.

With the low sulphur diesel and less lubrication in the fuel that is just fixin to hit the pump it is posing an issue. A few companies here run duramax engines in many trucks and the fuel pressure sensors are sticking and causing the engine to spit and sputting if you will a whole bunch. all the answers they got was to run a quality fuel treatment. raise the levels of lubrication and all. We run the Schaffler Syn-Shield in all the trucks and never have any problems. over 150,000 miles on two of the trucks and never been in the shop for anything.
