Hey Guys,

I was wondering if anyone has Electric Drop Down Steps on their truck?

I have seen the individual Kodiak steps and I'm not that thrilled with them.

Then I found these http://www.electricstep.com/ .

Anyone use these? How much do they cost? Any others like them?

Need the info? (Dr. Evil Voice)

I believe those are AMPs power steps...they are due to hit the market sometime this month...IIRC the MSRP is $1400.00...

That sure is a sweet setup, but for that kind of money I'd stick with some DeeZee chrome over stainless nerfs and invest in a Juice/Attitude and exhaust.

Well I need to get something since the wife has had enough jumping in and out. Those look kinda cool I was thinking kodiak but AMP look like it might be what I need.

Not available for our trucks for a couple more months. I think I'm gonna wait.

Consensus on the Kodiaks is that they are junk.

Kodiak has improved their steps in the past couple years espically with the new switches. With that said I would still rather have something that is completely covered when retracted. Kodiak has also designed a retracable running boards but the AMP's look better. The Kodiak boards look like a standard running board when retracted and the other style looks similar to AMP's but they do show a bit. I would not count on the AMP steps being on the market for a while. They originally debuted on a Dodge pickup at the 2001 SEMA Show , I also attended last years show and they have been telling me 'a couple more months' for almost a year now. Good luck getting them any time soon espically for that price.

Theres a lot of guys down at UPS that would love to have a setup like that for our delivery trucks! Lots of premature knee injuries (even when using handrails). I wish those steps didn't cost so much though. $800 is quite a chunk o' change. Would love to present this idea to our Safety Committee....

One concern I have is if you deal with lots of snow and ice, won't that "gum up" the mechanism, or at least slow them down? What about kicking up dirt and gravel into them? Corrosion would be a problem, too, wouldn't it? I wonder what their warranty is like. Just brainstorming possibilities.....because they are a good idea.

Yeah, I heard that Amp finished the design for the new 05 F150s and the H2's before they finished the design for the Silverados... BS. I want a set that fully retracts as well. A few friends have the Kodiaks, they are okay, but that is about it.. I like the Amp designed product... After all they are a design/engineering firm. I am sure when they come out for our trucks it'll be worth it.

Does anybody know if the AMP step will work inconjunction with my already installed nerf bars. I like the protection the nerf's give the truck.

Thanks

The Kodiak`s are the nicest electric steps I have seen. I had a set of them on my last truck, but the switches were junk. I ended up getting the old fashion push button switches from Kodiak and they worked pretty good. But the passenger side step continued blowing fuses until I inserted a 25 amp instead of the recommended 20 amp. I never had another problem out of them.

I have about 250,000 miles of experience with the Kodiak steps on crewcabs - 4 to a truck plus I've sold several sets to my customers for trucks used in Central America. The early ones did have problems with sealing, electrical failures, and the magnetic door jams after a lot of use. The GREAT thing was Kodiak took care of all of the problems I could present them with at "NO CHARGE". For the last 3 or more years, the units have been much better sealed and have push button switches. I have 4 units that have been on two trucks with a combined mileage of over 125,000 without a problem. They have been packed in Guatemalan mud, run continuously for over 1/2 hour up a riverbed, and taken all the undercarriage packed snow and ice of the Cascades of Oregon. No problem. They have been a great product with no failures under severe conditions. Great company and product from my point of view.

Anybody in the Dieselplace world looking for Kodiak Sidewinder retractable steps I have 2 complete sets for sale. Both sets are brand new and still in the original boxes. They fit the 00-04 Chevy or GMC Crew Cab or Extended Cab. The part numbers are (Driver's side)#950000000 & (Passanger's side)#950001000. I bought one set for a 99 Chevy truck that was traded to get my 2001 Black Dmax and the other set is from a friend who sold his truck too. My Dmax is lifted as well but has nerfs. I will sell them for $140.00 each step. Check them out @ www.kodiaksidewinder.com (http://www.kodiaksidewinder.com) .
