I keep hearing about AMSOIL. Can someone clarify what this product is and why you like it (if you do).

Thanks.

It is just another sythetic brand of oil. I have used it for about 13 years, my dad has used it since sometime in the mid 80's. It was the first company to come out with a synthetic oil. Advantages are, withstands higher tempratures, (heat will break down an oil) it withstands lower temps, (fluid I use remains fluid and will pour like it was warm down to -57degrees F.) It protects alot better then any patrolium oil, and alot of other synthetics. It has a longer drain intervals, the 10w-30 is use has 25,000 mile/or one year which ever comes first. It does cost more, but for wear and tear, one change a year, it ends up being alot cheaper. I use it in my engine, diffs, transfer case, and my tranmission. I would recommend it to anyone.

:exactly: What he said times 2.

I ran Amsoil in my old 01 LB7. No problems with the fluids. I ran it witha Bypass filter system from Amsoil and did not change my oil for 130,000 miles. That is not a typo. Still tested good right before the injectors went out at 184,000. I ran the Series 3000 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel oil in it.

I have since gotten an 06 LBZ and last week switched all fluids over to Amsoil, except Antifreeze and that will be done next week. I replaced a $400 waterpump and a very expensive lower rad hose on my LB7 from corrosion. This Amsoil Antifreeze will not cause corrosion and lubricates the gaskets so they do not wear.

I spent $400 on all the fluids and the filters from Amsoil. I will not have to change the Tranny fluid again for at least 100,000 miles, the engine oil at 25,000 becasue I have not put the bypass on yet. (Brass fittings are backordered) and the antifreeze gets checked at 100,000. Diffs, every 100,000 miles. Definately cheaper in the long run and protect your $50,000 truck much better than conventional.

You will have people say it is not worth it, but most of them have never used Amsoil so they do not know. I use my money on stuff that I can save money on in the long run. Diesel is getting expensive at the pumps, so every $40 oil change I can save money on, puts money in my fuel tank. Diff fluid from a dealer is rape! Allison Tranny fluid, well you have to get a loan for that stuff in synthetic.
Do what you want, but putting Amsoil in, will not be a mistake!

What he said x's 3!!!!!!! I have been using AmsOil exclusively for 28+ years living on Lake Superior and down here where it is Hotter Then Hell in Texas. I am going on 39,000 miles without the drain plug removed in my '02 Duramax. It only costs more to buy, then it costs less to use it!

:exactly: I hate the marketing, but love the products. Definitely get the bypass filter system. It takes most of the diesel soot out of the oil, so you don't have to look at jet black oil after a couple hundred miles.

I have become a dealer, only after using it in my truck for a while did I decide to sell it.

I first started using it in my pick up so that I could test it against the oil I had used proir by sampling. The sample for for dino was taken drained at 5k and was mostly used up, the AMSoil was taken at 12k and passed with considerable life left.

Use the Torque Drive ATF.

I just changed to Torgue Drive today. went for a spin and the trans.temp. did not get over 142, norm was 150 but the outside temp was only 89 today instead of 95 that might have made a differance.
Have a great weekend.

got a question for all of u guys then, i dont remember who it was but they said they didnt change the tranny fluid for a 100,000 miles? what about the internal and external filters on the allison? did u leave those on 2? and the diff? what about the metal accumulation on the magent? i run mobil 1 in my diff and there is always metal on the magnet on any of our trucks. almost always have ran dino fluids and am not 2 familiar with synthetics.

About the Tranny. Amsoil designed and has Torque Drive Synthetic for the Allison. GREAT stuff. I change the spin on every 10,000 with a fuel filter( that is until I get my Nictane installed, then I will change the CAT filter every 10,000 then the stock one every 20-30,000)
The internal filter never really needs to be changed unless you do a massive amount of towing. The Torque drive will last at least 100,000 with normal towing conditions.

Amsoil has made tha absolute best Differntial lube there is. Since the 70s every race car driver I know in the BIG leagues, like the World of Outlaws Sprints and LAte Models have used the racing formula as THEY Say it is the best. I have used the 75w-90 Severe gear since it came out and then the other stuff since the late 90s. It is sooo good that you do not get near as much filings on the magnet as you have ever seen before. This stuff is as advanced as it gets. I just switched my 06s diffs over to Amsoil and it had 8,500 miles on it. There was ALOT of filings on the magent. Most of it is normal for a new truck, but I will not check it again for 100,000 miles. I had 180,000 miles on my 01 and the last time I changed the diffs there was half as much on the magnet as I just got out of my 06. Honestly, the Amsoil is worth the little extra$$$ as it will save you money in the next 3 or 4 years. I have said this numerous times about the oil and changes every 5 to 7,500 miles. THAT IS A HUGE WASTE OF MONEY.
With Amsoil Series 3000 5W-30 and the new EaO filters that Amsoil has, you put in the oil and the new filter. Write down the mileage, add 25,000 miles to it and then run your truck to that mileage and do it all over again. I average 25,000 miles a year so that is about $100 for 1 years worth of oil changes.
I f I did like these other guys that do it at 7,500 miles that is 4 -$40 oil changes and 4 hours of labor. $160 the cheap way or $100 the Amsoil way and get less wear. Yuo figure it out. I will spend the extra money I saved for my add ons or diesel fuel, whatever I want.

AND decrease the demand on foreign oil.
