What kind of fuel mileage can be expected with a 4500 crewcab with 4:30 diff and D/A engine and trans???
I am considering buying one to tow horse trailers, rv's etc.

There are many variables but here is what I get:
Solo stop and go 12.5
Solo over the road 14.5
Towing on level to rolling 9.5 (19K 5th wheel)
Towing in Colorardo 8 so far.
I hope this helps. I might add that I use to have a 2500 HD with the 8.1 engine pulling a 14K 5th wheel, and it did not get anywhere near these figures.

We just got back from Alaska and we averaged a bit under 8 mpg over 10,500 miles.. We were towing a 16,000 lb 5th wheel. I have an '06' 5500.

Thanks for your replies. I thought it was probably in range of what you all reported.

I have never gotten more then 11 MPG bobtail. City mileage is best with these trucks. When you get above 60 MPH, you lose more and more mileage. I only pull 8000-10000 pounds on a regular basis. Mileage is 9-10 MPG towing. Still better then dad's F-250 TD.

I am getting around 9-10 mpg with a load. The trailer weighs 8300 empty and loaded around 18,000 to 25,000. Been using the truck for about 2 weeks or 4200 miles and that has been around the average. without a trailer i am only getting around 12. that is with exuast work and bully dog triple programmer on tow/economy.
