I am wondering if it would be benificial to get 4.10's. I am still running the stock tires...but I plan to go to 285's down the line.

I don't do much towing but the truck seems to lack a little grunt and is geared for warp speeds with the 245's...it is even going to be worse with the larger tires.

A chip might help, but will it spin too slow at high speeds with big tires.

Has anyone switched from 3.73, to 4.10? Is it hard? What tires are you running?

Thanks! Edited by: Mofun

Unless you run 35's or bigger, you will run out of motor with 4.11's

I've pulled alot of stuff and I just don't see a need for lower gears? The motor dosen't start pulling good much before 4th gear and really pulls hard in 5th with even small mods. With todays highway speeds I would personaly like to have higher gears. Maybe gain some fuel mileage and keep the motor deep in its power range.

A ~33" tire should put you at around 1800rpm @ 70mph...that's right on the torque is it not?

The truck should pull fine down the freeway like that. My 1/2 ton Z71 has 3.73:1 gears w/ 33" tires and moves okay at 1800rpm @ 70mph...but with almost twice the torque the HD should move fine.

Ok ...that makes me feel better. I was wondering what people that have gone to larger tires felt.

I agree...5th pulls hard and love the accelleration. I have blown the doors off a lot of cars on the freeway! lol They don't expect a big truck to go from 70-90 that fast. I made a trip to "The Lake" this weekend and made sure that big whitie was settin pace. It sure is fun having a truck with a turbo!

4:10 gears with 33" 285/75/16" is 32.83") tires will get you back close to 3:73 gears with the stock 30.5" (30.468") If my math is correct you really need 4:02 gears to get it back to stock like. The 4:10`s will be about 10% lower and 33"`s will be about 8% higher.

One of these days (If I keep the truck long enough) I plan on installing 4:10`s.

Also for anyone that races (IE: Michael Tomac) using 33" tires and rpm/mph limiter removed or bumped up 4:10`s would most likely help a great deal. That is as long as you have tractionhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
