I was thinking of getting a spray in liner. Any likes or dislikes of certain brands that a guy might want to consider before getting one? Also what do you think, over the rail or stay under. I'm planning on putting a tonneau cover on. I'll be putting snowmobiles in the bed occasionally during the winter so I'm hoping the carbides won't wreck it. Thanks for you .02 cents in advance

I just had a Line X over the rail sprayed on, real nice looking almost carpet like. I had the opportunity to stay right in the booth and watch the whole operation while he explained. It takes more time to prep than it does to spray. The stuff sprays out real hot and is dry in 4 seconds and will not run or flow on the sides or tailgate that way you know the thickness is consistant from top to bottom. They do the sides about 3/16 thick and the bed is about 1/4" thick. You can be in and out in less than 2 hours and full cure is 24 hours.

The whole truck is masked off except for the box then they rough up the clear coat and then chemical clean then spray

I like the look much better than the original painted box. Check out dealers for whatever product you buy and have a look at each one. The surface finish of some products I looked at were not as nice as the Line X

I think this product would be good for wheel wells and rockers etc,

Cost for me was $500 Can $'s short box.

I still say Rhino. $380 over the rails, finish is a little smoother than Line-X but just as tough and keeps things from moving around. I've had 'em both and like the Rhino better.

Line-X.....

I like the Line-X the best. Rhino came in a close second. Line-X is a little darker (black) and rougher. No problem with stuff sliding around. The rough surface is a little harder to clean than the smoother Rhino.

I say Line-X. I've also had both, like HD4fun and I think the line-x is lasting longer and better color to start. I won't matter too much if you have a toneau cover.
Look at both on trucks and pick on durability, color, and last price. Don't just choose on price. Good luck.

I just replaced my Pendaliner SR drop in with a Line-X spray in and really like it. I don't know where in MN you are, but I checked several in and around the Twin Cities and found the St. Cloud location offered the best price - $465 over the rails on my shortbox, provided you let them put a Line-X sticker on your back window. Otherwise, add $20. Their tape lines are very straight and the coverage is great. Stuff really holds still better on the Line-X than the Pendaliner even though I had their SR (Skid Resistant). I like the over the rails option as I repainted the rails 2X on my 97 2500 at a cost of $200 per time due to scratches and rust.

Just my .02.

Good Luck!

I posted in that link noted in the last post. Here is some updated/additional information. LINE-X's tear strength is 304 pounds, Rhino is 145 pounds. Speedliner has to use an adhesive primer (glue) to make it stick to the bed. (I don't think I would like that.)

I got mine Line-Xed also... I had him spray over the rails down to the crease in the bed (about an inc down). I'll post some pics this weekend...

Going in the morning and getting a Super Liner sprayed in. Tough if not tougher than a Line-X with a lifetime gaurantee not to peel, fade or any damage. Gonna have some permenant logos or graphics added to it also. $395 for and under the rail! Saw one 3 years old and the thing still looks shiney as new!

I've got the SuperLiner on mine. Wish I'd gone over-the-rail as my sister gouged the sh!@ out of my bedrail with a shovel a few weeks ago. Superliner was my choice b/c of the UV protection (no fade, supposedly) and it was cheaper here ($350 vs $425 for Line-X).

Plus, the same guy did my GN hitch and bedliner in the same day. There's something to be said for one-stop shopping. The kicker is that I had it done at the friendly neighborhood Ford dealership. Guess they wanted to spruce up the place for a day...

Guy here @ work went with Line-X, which looks good, too. We'll see how it looks in 3-5 yrs. Frankly, I don't think either one would be bad. I basically came down to $ and logistics for me.

All liners have good and bad points. SuperLiner has a very good tensile strength, but unfortunately its temperature tolerance is only 180 degrees. So, if you live in a area that gets hot in the summer time, SuperLiner will lose a lot of that tensile strength when it gets hot. And, SuperLiner is a VERY soft liner, Shore A (85). Their warranty is dealer specific (you have to take it back to where it was sprayed). LINE-X is the only brand that I have found that offers a NATIONAL lifetime warranty. I have researched Rhino (Tuff Stuff), Rhino (Durabond), Speedliner, Toff, Reflex, SuperLiner, Permatech, Ameraguard, and Ultimate Linings (which I think WAS Gatorback).Edited by: TruckDaddy

Line X, all the way, over the rails and don't look back, had a heavy pipe fall on the rail and god knows how many other things scraping against it,,, Takes abuse like nobodys business,

Highly Recommenedhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

I went the cheap route and got a Vortex Bed Liner. A big mistake. My son just had a Kine-X put in his 04 GMC 1/2 ton. It looks great. My Vortex looks like cottage cheese. I guess it is live and learn!!!

TruckDaddy
06-07-2004, 10:29 AM
Actually, the "cottage cheese" look is typically of any bedliner that goes on using a cold/low pressure application system. They get sort of gouped on. LINE-X uses a high heat/high pressure system which produces a much nicer finish, sort of like an orange peel.

Line-X, under the rails, headliner of cap matches spray. keep original drain holes.

Had Rhino in the last truck, Line-X in this one. There are arguments for both. When I do the next one, I'll do the Line-X again. Just personal preference!

I have had Rhino and LineX.... Rhino was very soft and It actually sliced easily to the metal loading and unloading MX bikes and Quads. Plus the Rhino turned a chaulky grayish color within 6 months Looked horrible in my opinion. I have had LineX for 2 years and have no complaints, tough as nails and takes abuse. As everyone else recommends, go over the rails, looks clean!!!Edited by: Dirt & Sand

I've had LINE-X in my trucks since 96. Got my new 04 on Tuesday, went right to LINE-X and had my truck done. Cost was $400 over the rail

Here is a pic of my new Superliner I just had sprayed in. Tough as nails and a lifetime gaurantee against damage and no fading either. Looks very glossy and is the best looking liner I have seen yet.

Looks good. But, no fading is a bunch of bull. Superliner advertises that 100% aliphatic polyurethane (as opposed to aromatic polyurethane) won't fade. Aliphatic polyurethane is more UV resistant, but is absolutely not fade proof. Check back with us in about 3 to 6 months and lets see.

There are extremely stable (VERY UV stable) and high quality aliphatic polyurethanes on the market. But, they are not used in truck beds. It would cost you a small fortune to have your truck bed sprayed with it.

When i have a gaurantee in writing that says it will not fade, then if it does well they will do it again, and again, and again if needed. Thats what the gaurantee if for! Looked at a truck before I had it done that had the liner in it for the past three years and it looked almost brand new. I'm not too bothered about it.Edited by: 03GMC2500HD

I check most of them out, and I'm going to go with the Perma-Tech, they guarantee against fading and chalking, and I liked the finish and the color selections they offer, when I was at the shop the owner was spraying liners in about 20 new trucks that were being delivered to the Florida Fish & Game, he got the contract because he did the last batch and they were happy with the product and the service they got, if you visit Perma-Techs web site www.perma-tech.com they have a nice feature, that lets you see what your color of truck you now own, will look like with there different colors of spray in liners they offer. TruckDaddy

The only problem I have with Permatech is that it has a 180 degree temperature tolerance with only a 1,750 psi tensile strength. 1,750 is already low for a 100% polyurethane liner and when that bedliner heats up in that Florida sun, it will lose some if its tensile strength and it will become rather weak. If you are going to use your truck bed like a truck bed, you might want to consider a tougher liner.
