onesmokindmax04 06-01-2004, 07:41 PM my 2004 Duuramax i just got back on a campin trip did great on towin a traile and a truck camper. was Noticing to day when idling it puts out a littel bit of white smoke so i got in it and revved it up and it blacks smokes some is there somthing wrong with it? any one eles havin thes probles? What were the ambient temps ?? Sounds like you have nothing to worry about ,IMO .... Mac onesmokindmax04 06-01-2004, 08:16 PM it was in the middil of the day around 2:30 about 65-70 degrees i have never noiced it befor far as the black smoke i have rev it be for never has down it i just want to make sure theres nuthin wrong with it Mackin 06-01-2004, 08:28 PM If I rev my truck off idle I will see smoke also ,black ..... I never see white smoke unless it's a cold start on a cold day ,you have ruled that out ...White (not steam) is a sign of unburnt diesel ... Black smoke if NOT excessive is normal ... You have two choses ... 1) Keep and eye on it if it persist bring it in ... 2) Bring it is and explain to service personal your sightings and a Tech II diagnostic will show if there is a problem with an injector(s) ... Mac Old Vet 06-02-2004, 05:05 PM I had the same problem with my 2001, I took in to the GM Dealer and they ran a Diagnostic check on the engine and said it was in excellent condition. I havn't noticed it as much lately. Norm 06-02-2004, 06:02 PM I have the same problem with mine, only mine starts to idle rough when it starts throwing white smoke. Recently found out an injector is bad. One is on order and will hopefully be here soon. I am wondering if driving it until the new injector is put in will cause any long term problems. I have the LLY w/ 5500 miles on it. onesmokindmax04 06-02-2004, 07:06 PM mine it dont idle rough i hope its not no injectors i have 3,000 on it Victory Red 06-02-2004, 10:05 PM I'm getting new injectors as we speak(supposed to be done Friday). I didn't notice white smoke at idle(full operating temp) until right before my appointment. I first noticed it sitting at a stoplight with the wind blowing towards the front of my truck, caught a glance of it. I also would have a rough idle when first arriving at a stoplight as if my injectors took too long to balance out. If it's enough for you to notice at full engine temp sitting in the cockpit and looking out the mirror then you probably have an issue. onesmokindmax04 06-02-2004, 10:44 PM yeah my g/f was behind me the outher day and she said when i take off it will smoke a littel. so that would be injectors?
