: First impressions MBRP system.
Polar 06-01-2004, 07:33 PM I just had an MBRP T-409 turbo back kit with a 5" resonator tip installed on my LLY. The sound is now a lot more throaty with a pronounced increase in turbo whistle (gotta love that), no annoying drone at highway speeds and although it is louder, the stereo even at low volumes nullifies that. I've noticed no change in the smell of the exhaust without the cat as was a concern on another thread, but it does puff a little black when starting up now, although it may have done that before and I just didn't notice. As for mileage increase it's too soon to tell. Performance wise the turbo does spool up faster, it requires less peddle to get the truck moving then before and hwy acceleration has seemed to improve. I think I'll see a larger difference from stock when pulling my fifth wheel. All in all I'm happy with it so far and am looking forward to how it performs with an intake kit.
wakeboarder 06-03-2004, 02:23 PM I have an 03 with a cat. I also put the mbrp system on but I left of the front pipe. I have been trying to get time to put it on to see if I like it. I was alittle afraid that it would be to loud. About the only thing I do in the summer is pull with it. Doesn't sound like it is to bad though.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
hdmax 06-03-2004, 02:46 PM How much cutting involved with installation of these? I think I read that there is one exhaust for all these single rear wheel trucks. Meaning the short bed crew cab needs cut, or are there short pieces to make up this exhaust? How is the clamps? and the quality of it all?
wakeboarder 06-03-2004, 03:02 PM I haven't seen anyone else's systems but for fit and finish this one was great. The only cutting I had to do was the tail pipe. I wanted the tip a certain length so I had to trim it a little. Everything just fell into place. It took longer to remove the old system than it did to install the knew.
Polar 06-03-2004, 03:32 PM The old system came out easily we did have to remove one mounting bracket beside the tranny to allow the cat to come out. The only cutting involved was the tailpipe to allow for the tip. The downpipe wasn't quite long enough to replace the cat so we added a section of stainless approximatly 16" long. I'm not sure why we had to extend when the kit clearly states that it was for the CCSB. This exhaust system really works well, it woke my truck up a lot more than I had anticipated. I've replaced the exhaust on just about everything I've ever owned and have never seen as large a difference from stock as I have on my D-Max, probably because it's a diesel and not a gasser.
SpeedTherapy 06-03-2004, 04:36 PM I just installed MBRP Cool Duals on my Sierra LLY. The fit and finish is excellent. The only cutting required for my installation was the pipe in front of the muffler. The look of the system from the rear says BadAss. The sound is quite a bit louder than stock when getting on it, and a nice rumble while cruising. You can really hear the turbo sing now.
I scrapped the Cat and wouldn't you know, the check engine light lit up within the first hundred miles...must be the EGR low flow thing. I don't believe there is anything detrimental happening here as the truck runs great with quicker turbo spool-up. No EGT comparison before and after as I don't have an Edge/Attitude....YET!
Cool Stuff: When slowing on an off-ramp or coming to a stop, hit the tow-haul button and let the Ally downshift thru the gears. With the new exhaust the sound is sweet.
GreenDuramax04 06-03-2004, 10:26 PM I have the MBRP dual system and I did have to cut the front pipe. No big deal, you just need a hack saw or a sawzall.
My duals look and sound perfect. Other than the Edge its the best thing I've done to my truck. It really sets my truck apart from other diesels on the road.

Mark Craig 06-04-2004, 10:42 AM hdmax,
Being one of the largest MBRP distributors in the USA we have the answers for you. All you have to do is cut the intermediate pipe if your truck is different than a CC Shortbed, on a CC Short it bolts right on, on a CC long you need our extension piece and then it bolts right on as well. The standard system bolts on at the 4 bolt flange mid way back on the transmission, the front pipe is available for those that want to race and eliminate the cat etc. We leave the tail pipe a bit long so that you can cut it to your desired length to get the tip to be positioned exactly like you like it. If any of you members have any questions just call us up, were here to help.

Thanks very muck Mark!
It looks like I have the perfect size truck as I have the crew cab.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif Are you like Banks and take exchange? I have the Banks Monster exhaust and would really like the dual 5" setup. But I just can not take that type of lose. Maybe one of these days.

Glad to hear the exhaust is what you were looking for. Great to hear all the positive comments from all.
Thanks

lakingslayer 06-07-2004, 03:17 PM I got the 4" single system on my truck last weekend. It's great so far. Nice growl but not overwhelming. I still have to replace the cat with the straight pipe. I just ran out of time to finish it but should be getting it done in the next couple of weeks. Nice sound so far. I didn't cut any of the pipes. Only busted one hanger (the U bolt). Installed the system without lifting the truck at all so it took me a little longer to get the job done since I still have the stock suspension and tires. Plus it was my first time doing an exhaust system. I think the system is definately worth it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Mark Craig 06-08-2004, 09:19 AM hdmax,
Hey I have a suggestion for you, post that system here and other places in the for sale sections and if you price it right someone will take it off your hands. I have suggested this to a lot of customers that want our systems and it has worked pretty well overall. You'll still take a hit but it will be less and make a fellow site member happy at the same time.
