I dont want a tranny war so please just give owner experience. I have a 2004 crew cab, and I and wanting to get a tranny that will hold my edge attitude that will be converted to a hot juice, then I want to stack it with a quad box. I want this tranny to hold an easy 500 rear wheel hsp. So what tranny will do this the best in your humble opinion.

I have a full ATS kit in my tranny, which is the Co-Pilot, c1-c4 clutch packs, Triple Disc converter, pump upgrades, valve body mods and a few other things. I think it is the best bang for the buck for a full upgrade kit. (guys dont say the transgo is cause it doesnt have all the clutches or triple disc in the kit) I am very happy with the way it is performing, very adjustable and fairly easy to install if you are able to wrench. It has easily held everything I have, feels like it will hold a ton more!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif This is just my personal experience, not saying its the best or anything as I havent experienced any other upgrades.

If you are truely going to make 500 + RwHp I would not go with the Transgo kit or single disc converter, they were not designed for that type of use. I should know as I help design the kit with Transgo. You can go with any unit you like as they are all having holding problems at high Hp. What makes them different is how they handle you when there is a problem. Suncoast, ATS and a few others are out there for you to look at but it's really up to whom you feel comfortable with.

JMO. I like the Suncoast steels and frictions, and I like the ATS Co-pilot and Torque Convertor. So far mine is holding up great. I hope I can say the same at 200,000 miles. I don't look forward to pulling it out again, and the HP is only going up.

First thing you have to ask your self is what are you going to do with the truck. Second is what kind of horsepower. Why does everyone say 500 hp? You must be realistic and not get caught up in this horsepower fantasy. Few guys are making 500 hp, and the guys that post the huge 600 hp numbers, run the bitch at the track and show us. They haven't shown us squat at the track, have they? The Transgo shift kit will fill just about anyones needs with a good converter. If you feel like you are the ant crawling up the elephants leg with sex on your mind, call Suncoast otherwise a good single disk will do you just fine. I sell both the Suncoast and TTS single disc.

Well the truck is a farm truck. I pull a 30 foot corn pro flat an dusually have between 6 to 12 ton on it during the summer months. When it is not hooked, it will be a balls to the wall truck smackin some other diesels around in my area. So I want holding power for pulling, and for race mode.

500 hsp is not hard to make in the duramax so I do see alot of that in this area. Right now I am at 360, but am itching to put more to the ground. Just because I want to!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

I missed that (told you I was old). I think you are going to hear this kind of stuff from people with any mod. Some maybe true some not. What were the circumstances on the failures and were the non failures pushed as hard? Were the installations correct or was there actually a failure? In reality, all of the above are true to a certain extent. These diesels make a lot of tq, and they brake things. Everytime we trans guys think we got a handle on something, somebody finds some more power. It's tough, It's fun.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

A buddy of mine Smokin Max has the ATS, and his holds all his power. So I do respect the ATS. I do also have a friend that just ordered one for his Dodge, but the 5100 dollar price is a tad high on top of the 1600 dollar core charge. I do want a fine tranny, but not at the price of almost another truck payment.

The core charge is refundable.

IMHO, scale back your goals a bit, a good converter and shift kit and stick with the HJAT and you'll have 450RWHP or so.

It takes a lot more to hit a legitimate 500 RWHP, and IMHO, you are often adding 100HP+ worth of fuel to get 20-50HP net.

At the present time, it takes some pretty good air to get mine across 500RWw/o gas...

My statement was that everyone making High Hp transmissions has had and will have failures. It's how they take care of you after you break down that counts! Yes, ATS's have failed and so have Suncoast but that's not my point. My point is to deal with a company that you are comfortable with.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif Interesting.....So bascically if I am reading JK correctly you can spend $2500 or so in tranny and juice to get 450hp...or you can spend $5000 on stuff to approach 500. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif Kindof make you go hmmmmm.

Ok so I am sorta lost on this one. So what is the best for the money? There are so many kits out there and no one seems to be brand loyal other than those with these hyped up trans installed.

I would like to know differences between Suncoast, Transgo and ATS etc. Any others I left out would be nice to hear about too. Just trying to figure all this out before I drop dollar and have one built. ..
