Pre-Oem Nicktane, 16,000 miles. Looks like it was about due, but not terrible.

Can for that filter. Didn't photograph well, but there's a Filtermag shadow way down at the bottom. Just one Filtermag on the thing, and it's a big can.

OEM filter at the same 16,000 miles. Looks like I could easily double the change interval. All of the filter looked like this except ...

... one spot that looked like this.

Easy to see the Filtermag shadow on the OEM can. These particles must too small for the Cat filter to catch is all I can figure. They sure feel fine. Maybe Filtermags all the way up and around the Cat filter would help.

The Mobil-1 oil filter can from the wife's '03 Expedition, with 5,000 miles on it. Runs Mobil-1 0W-20 oil. Can you tell I like Filtermags?

The Filtermag will catch particles much smaller than the micon level. I run one on my OE filter and also had one on my Mega, but will discontinue use on the Mega as there is no visible evidence inside the can.

I chose the OE filter for the Filtermag due to the small size and easier containment (lesser area to apply magnetic field to) along with the idea that it was the first filter in my system giving the magnet first crack at the contamination, AND this filter is serviced more frequently removing accumulated junk from the system.

Filtermag on my OE oil filter as well...

I have the filtermag on my OE fuel filter and the shadow looked the same on mine too! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

If the ferrous particles are really that small, you could argue that removing them is overkill, as they're well below the critical wear size.

But when I look at what these trucks cost, I have no problem overkilling things like this. The Filtermag may seem like pricey overkill, but compared to an injector job or the price of a new truck, it's in the noise.

Well put!

I'm certain some of the particles caught are so small they wouldn't hurt anything, but after George's before/after Filtermag findings on fuel filtration, I'm hooked...

Looking a ZFMaxs stock filter, and considering the fact he has another filter located at the tank, I'd venture that the stock filter is only 20% used based on the banding at the lower portion of the filter. Also note the one side discoloring which further supports the low filter level due to entraped air being created due to the suction within the can, increased with additional restriction at the tank. I'd guess this area was where the fuel inlet was within the stock base. After installation of lift pumps, my stock filter has almost a steady coloring from top to bottom.

I use Filtermags on both fuel and oil filters. Allison must agree with the use of mags---they use one stock on the tranny.--------Phil
