I am looking to buy a Dodge Cummins Diesel soon. I want a 2nd generation truck, I have heard a Cummins 24V Straight Pipe, and i LOVE the sound of it. But I want to buy a 12V cause those are funner to beef up. Will the 12V straight pipe be as loud as the 24V straight pipe? Some people say they think the 24V would be louder but they are not sure. Hopefully someone has heard both. Thanks!

I have heard both, it seemed like the 24v was a little louder on WOT, these were pretty much stock trucks, did the 24v you heard have the muffler and resonator gone or just the muffler? But the money you will be saving by bombing a 12v vs 24v, the 12v should sound even better. At the PFI dyno day I heard a 12v with twins and OMG http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif it sounded sweeeeet. If I could have found a 98 12v I would of went that route instead, but happy nonetheless. Good luck!

Will the resonator cause that much of a difference in sound, with the muffler gone? Should it be taken out along with the muffler?

As far as I know it is alot louder without the resonator as well. My truck has only the muffler removed and I still get the pi$$ed off look when people are next to me with their window down trying to have a conversation or talk on the phone, window goes up everytime.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

Shame.... like the women with kids in the minivan making a turn in a major intersection with no turn signal on and talking on the cell.

The people that don't use their turn signal all the time or don't concentrate because of cell phones need to hear the roar of the Cummins straight pipe just to annoy them.

And if that don't get their attention they get the train horn.

Don't forget driving with the knee, smoking a cig, eating a hamburger while holding the cell phone with their shoulder counting to three to make her kids shutuphttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

The 24V Ive heard is one of my friends. He took off the muffler and cat (or resonator) and put some 3" pipe in place. It is SOOO loud! I was following him in my truck and he was about 4 cars ahead of me and the slightest throttle and I could hear it like I was right next to it. Best sound in the world!http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif His truck is a 2001, Isnt the 2001 cummins a really loud engine in that year? would that make a difference? I have heard a few 12Vs, I dont know if they were straight piped, the exhaust was loud, but I couldnt really hear them even accelerating from a stop light is there that much difference between the 12v and the 24v straight pipe? no resonator, just stock 3" pipe?

Is that your only deciding factor? Which one is louder? There alot of other different factors other than the sound between the 12v vs 24v. If sound is what you want just hack off the exhaust after a 4" downpipe and I'm sure it will be very loud, or maybe to keep it legal, send the exhaust out the side of the truck just past the cab. If that doesn't work just shoehorn a CAT in your truck and run stacks.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Good Luck.
