Sounds like a passlock problem.

What year is the truck?

Do you have a remote start on it?

Could be a damaged passlock hall effect sensor or something.

So it fires and shuts off almost right away?

Try leaving the key in the ON possition for 30 minutes. Then shut the key off and turn it back on and see if it starts.

what brought this about? Did it just not start one morning? Did you recently run out of fuel? If you just pump the primer with the valve closed does the pump get harder? Is there diesel in your oil? (pull dipstick, have a drop fall on some paper and watch it. If diesel is in there it will quickly absorb into the paper while the oil will stay a liquid on top)

you have 2 big connectors on top of your driver side valve cover. Unplug both then replug them back in.

Run a test light on both sides of all fuses.

Make sure you have continuity across the fuses.

Sounds like a fuse is bad and you haven't found it yet.

Good Luck

No fuel guage movement? Could be fuse, could be dead data bus, could be dead ecm, could be........

You're going to probably need a shop to diagnose it unless you have some tools, some diagnostic abilities and service manual.

What if anything brought it on?

Truck Turns Over And Fires Once Then Acts Like No Fuel Until I Turn Key Off ,try To Start Again ,fires Once . No Edge Either! Help??????

Mine and my dad's truck both had the same symptoms, turn key, fire up for one second and shut down. No guage movement, no ses, nada in both cases. His was the pass lock box theft deterent system box. My ECM needed to be replaced.

Try leaving the key in the ON possition for 30 minutes. Then shut the key off and turn it back on and see if it starts.

This process did work on my dad's truck, but about every 6th or 7th key cycle it would do the same thing again. I tried this with my truck and nothing, wiped ECM.

My 02 Duramax died after starting and would never start again! Had it towed to mechanic two weeks ago. He thinks that the fuel pump failed and will cost $1000 + installation. I did the same checks you did with all the fuses and the fuel filter pump. This is somewhat unnerving because this problem could happen anywhere or anytime???Arn't diesel's supposed to be bullet-proof? If I ever get my truck back, I will let you know what the cause of death was. Jerry, Shingletown,CA

My mechanic just called to tell me the truck is running...he replaced the fuel filter which had a small air leak(this filter was installed by recall at my local dealership a month ago). I have over 108K on the Duramax and this is my first problem. After reading the many testimonials about the LB7, I guess I should consider myself lucky. I change oil and filter every 3K and use 5-40 Rotella Synthetic. Added a large differential pan, a large trans. pan with synthetic trans. oil, 4 " exhaust and an Airaid air cleaner. The truck pulls hard and gets good fuel mileage. Added the Bully Dog 2 months ago for more efficient power. The Bully Dog seems to work as my exhaust temperatures have dropped 50 degrees on a hard pull. Jerry, Shingletown,CA
