: Hit & Run!
Fin-Addict 05-31-2004, 07:42 PM Man am I p***ed http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif!!!!
Went out to dinner tonight and when I came out of the resturant I found the rear bumper of my Dmax all twisted up!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif No note, NOTHING!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
Thank god it didn't get pushed into the rear quarter! Another 1/8" and I would have had a mangled rear quarter too! The plastic top cover of the bumper was against the quarter panel but it didn't even scratch the paint.
The truck doesn't even have 4k miles on it yet and someone smacks it!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
Anyway, I guess I have to find a rear bumper now. Any suggestions from anyone?? I'm going to go to my local body shop to see what he wants for a new bumper, but was thinking that maybe I can find someplace online where I might be able to save a couple of $$$. I DON'T want something used!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif The truck is brand new and perfect in every way.....the last thing I want is something that was straightened that may have some ripples in it!
Thanks for any help!
Max Power 05-31-2004, 08:08 PM Look in the for sale section. There is someone selling bumpers. You could also try ebay.
Voodoo 05-31-2004, 09:11 PM That sucks, the good thing is; the dumb a$$ that did it should have more damage than you did. A friend of mine had that happen to him, he called the police buddy he knew and filed a report, while the police were at the resturant they asked for the most recent check stubs and were able to find the guy that did it.
Dmax Tim 06-01-2004, 08:19 AM I built a 4X6" 3/8" steel tube bumper on my 93 Chevy truck.
We were parked in downtown Columbus and it got hit twice in less than an hour.
The first time they ran into the cushion hitch (2 employees were in my truck at the time) then backed up and left for a different parking space.
The other time we were in Wendys eating and a car left and short cut the corner and left a nasty pin stripe/crease down the side of car.
A passerby waited until we came out to tell us what happened and the car description(rare indeed).
I only needed a couple of shots of black paint and like new again.
I've been thinking about building a new bumper like my old one for the truck just because of people like that.
Turfmower 06-01-2004, 07:33 PM I all ways leave the hitch in my receiver I was hit 2 times in one week last year. It put nice hole in both of their bumpers. The only damage I got was little paint on my pental hook.
Fin-Addict 06-01-2004, 08:16 PM Well, I got the bad news today. $900.00 to fix the truck. Upon closer inspection, the rear fender did get pushed in. I could probably go without fixing the fender because it's pushed in behind the bumper, but I know it will bother the heck out of me knowing the dent is there. Especially being that the truck is so newhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif!!
I usually leave the hitch on also, but this guy got me right in the corner of the bumper. The hitch did nothing! The corner of the bumper had no strength and just folded right into the fender!
It's going to kill me to have to spray a little section of that rear fender!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif The body guy I know does real nice work and I know you'll never see where it was sprayed, but I will always know it's there!!http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif
Man this sucks! That could have been $900.00 towards Juice or something!! Oh well, I guess that's how the cards fall!
Max Power 06-01-2004, 08:33 PM What is your deductable? I have $100 deductable and if it was a hit and run I would be at 0 fault so it wouldn't affect my licence or insurance rate. I guess I am lucky that way.

Mine is $1,000.00. Here in NY it's not worth having low deductables (in my opinion, at least). What I would pay more for a $250.00 or $500.00 deductable, I could put aside and within a couple of years, I would have the $1K. Here it's either pay now, or take your chances and pay later. I chose to pay later.
Also here EVERYTHING affects your insurance rate!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif It doesn't matter whether your at fault or not, if you put in a claim you're almost guaranteed an increase on your next renewal!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif
JimWilson 06-02-2004, 01:38 PM I know how you feel...
My last truck was the victim of a hit and run, right in front of my own house too. Some @sshole must have backed into the side of it. Cost $4800 to get it fixed. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif
Sure does hurt, doesn't it?
Fin-Addict 06-03-2004, 07:02 PM Anybody have access to a schematic of the rear of the 2500HD? I got the part # off the quote the body guy gave me and I priced the parts from gmpartsdirect.com. What I'm wondering is, does the rear bumper come with all the plastic covers or do I have to reuse the ones off the old bumper? Also, I want to make sure I got the right part #'s. All of the parts are special order and can't be returned.
Silveradogs 06-04-2004, 07:20 AM I am pretty sure, you have to R & R the plastic covers, etc.
Easy to remove once the bumper is off, just unclip.
Good Luck!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Hacksaw 06-04-2004, 08:29 AM What Silverdogs said. No parts, just the bumper.
Fin-Addict 06-04-2004, 08:39 AM hmmmhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif......I have one of those buttons broken already. I wonder if I can get replacements!? I guess I'll have to go to the stealer for thathttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif!
I'll be selling my bumper soon, the truck only has 6000 miles on it and the bumper is like new, and I'm in NY
Fin-Addict 06-06-2004, 06:33 PM Berk,
What kind of bumper are you putting on? I thought of putting an aftermarket bumper on but didn't see anything I liked. Let me know when you're ready to sell your bumper... I may be interested.
