The LBZ is the same as the LLY mechanically speaking. Just a different tune for the engine. Same new 32 pin Bosch connector.

I vote for lb7 ( no variable geometry turbo but no egr and better potential for a big tune...)

so, more hp, more torque, and better resale . is the block made of the same material ? one of the stickys says the lbz has an improved block if i read it correctly,plus some more improvements.

I liked my LB7 but I prefer the LLY and LBZ for the injector location. What I like less about the LLY/LBZ is the EGR but blocking it is easier than changing injectors on a LB7. The 06 LBZ does have improvements over the 06 LLY as indicated by those who have had a look at the pistons and block. Also the reason for the RPO code change.

Also the LBZ has a D for the 8th digit of the vin #. Not sure but I think it stands for Dammm. :eek:

It has been stated over and over in posts here that the two engines are identical except for programming. The sticky is just a repeat of the blurb GM put out earlier in the year which made it seem the two engines were different. Mechanics I have spoken with at the Chevy and GMC dealerships who work on the two engines along with the ones posting here have stated the two engines are identical, bolt for bolt, part for part.

Think about it, would GM be stupid enough to retool an assembly line for a three month run on an engine just to replace it shortly thereafter? They would be in much worse financial situation than present if that were the case!

After I wrecked my LB7 which was on 8/26/05 I went to my local GMC dealership to order a new truck which I had decided after talking to Kennedy was going to be a LBZ. I sat there with the General Manager of my dealership while he was on the phone with GM and they told him that it wouldn't be possible to order the LBZ untill 9/12/05. The reason was that they needed to use up the remaining 06 LLY blocks before they would start assembling the LBZ. The lag time went even further than expected and my truck wasn't assembled untill 10/16/05. Many members here had trucks ordered during that time and they remember the wait. It was a lot longer than it took to download a program into the engine. Also one of our DP venders tore into the LBZ engine and noted the difference in the block structure and one of the oil gallery port sizes. I think it was Eric but I may be mistaken. What ever the case theres no need to get defensive. They are both good engines, Right.....

If all it takes is a ECM reflash to make a LLY into a LBZ I wonder why GM won't allow it.......

I believe Eric clarifys that the 06'LLY and the 06' LBZ are the same motor, same parts, etc etc.....obviously the 05'LLY has different engine parts than the 06' LLY and LBZ

Go for the LBZ unless they're offering you a smokin deal on an 06 LLY.
They're both excellent, but why not have the latest and greatest?

Judging by all the posts in these threads I see no one has anything conclusive to offer so theres no point in beating a horse that won't die. Since I don't have any interest in the argument (no LLY) theres no point in getting into it.........

:exactly: Both are excellant so if you can save enough $$ go with the LLY then install a transgo Jr. with a light tune and pocket whats left.

They are the same engine. I dont care what you read and where you read it. I have one of each here in enough pieces to tell. One is a 2006 Vin code 2 and the other is a 2006 Vin code D

current incentives on the 2006 are better than the 2007 and incentives are even better for a 2006 LLY. I own one and my $$$$ would be on the LLY. Total savings of about $4000 no big decision. That would make alot of goody purchases possible

I specifically went looking for 06 LLY. Most Dealers do not know they are the same as LBZ, at least externally & computer(Bosch 32 bit). You can use that to bargain. There is also more GM cash back. I bought CCSB LT3-3LT. Roughly - $500 under invoice
- $3500 cash back
-$2980 GM master card
$34,500 plus tax/license
$36,068 in my driveway
Couldn't buy a used one for that!
A little adjustment to the fuel tables & Who cares if it's an LBZ?? That's how I see it.
