I dont have an egt guage or any other non factory guages on my truck
I have read that it is important to know the EGT temp before shut down
Here is my question, :o:
If it is so important, why does it not come stock on the truck?
If I choose to get one , Where would I go?
What would I ask for exactly?
Will they or the dealer install it for me?
What is the complete cost to have it put on my truck?
Are there any other guages I need to have to be safe?
Thanks
Paul

Good questions, I'd like to know the answers also.

A good EGT gauge can be had for arround $180 for the parts. If you want someone to intall it should only take about an hour unisng the "hoot" method. If you want to go with a gauge setup i would recomend the Autometer Nexus gauges as they are extremely easy to hook up and monitor. You could easily install yourself but if need be, a truck upfitter could handle the need. I'm sure you could probably convince a service dept. that you need it for towing only  but they are hard to "persuade". You are just looking for an EGT gauge aka Pyrometer. If your just worried about shutdown temps there are a few companies that make timers so they keep your truck running for a few minutes.

Does installing these guages (egt & boost) affect your warranty?

I just recently had a Autometer 30lb boost & Pyro gauges installed in a dual over the mirror pod and parts labour and taxes the job was $ 550
Included two hours labour, pryo gauge at $ 230, boost gauge at $ 135 and pod was $ $55.
They drilled the drivers side exhaust, ran the wiring via the firewall, then pillar & headliner.
Shop was a truck aftermarket specialty location( hitches, spray in liners, performance stuff, etc.etc.)
Hope this info helps

I'm not mechanic by any means but me and a buddy did mine, boost and pyro.
I used the super diesel manifold so I didn't have to tap the intake. Real simple plug and play solution. Pyro of course had to drill the manifold but it took <20 minutes to do it end to end. I put all electrical in loom so it looks nice under the hood. Went with a pillar mount for the gauges.
Got all my stuff from dieselmanor.com. I think I spent around $400 total including the superdiesel manifold. I'm really happy with my gauges.
Check my garage for pics, PM if you want details. I was nervous about drilling and tapping the manifold but once we got started it was no big deal. I had never tapped anything before and it was easy. The hoot method rocks!!!

The BD diesel manifold (http://www.bd-power.com/gmc/product.php?pn=BD%20Duramax%20Manifold&tt=gmc) is one that replaces the driver's side exhaust manifold. Stock is comes restricted for the steering colomn but it is not eveb close. Replace the stock with the BD to breathe better and it comes with a pre-tapped hols for EGT also
The SD diesel manifold is one that goes inline with the intake/turbo with pre-tapped holes for running boost gauge or meth injection.
The "hoot" method refers to drilling the exhaust while the engine is running at idle. The shaving just simply blow out the exhaust making EGT tapping a breeze.

Did you guys notice any performance difference after installing the BD manifold?

Thanks for the replies, I learn something new every day, it sounds like the BD manifold is a good way to go. How easy is it to install? time frame?

I think Kennedy tried one and it didn't make much difference. Try a search.
