I'm somewhat dissatisfied with the limited fuel capacity of my LLY CC SB. When towing, I only have an effective range of about 200 miles (3/4 tank) before its time for a pit stop. What is the conventional wisdom on Aux. tanks? Is Transferflow a good product? What should I look for and what should I avoid? Perhaps I should get one that mounts between the frame rails to avoid using bed space. All suggestions welcomed.

So many questions; so little time.

Transferflow is the pioneer of replacement tanks. The new kid on the block is www.supertanks.com (http://www.supertanks.com)

As far is in bed tanks there are lots of options. You could even likely find someone locally to make you a custom one to your specs.

In bed tank choices are good also.

If you do a search, you will find some different theories on the fuel tank issues.

For an in bed auxillary tank set up, you can look at Idle_Chatter's set up; he has pictures posted and it works great!!

I just installed a Supertank on my Silverado 3500. Great so far. Holds 300 litres / 75 US gallons.

I am planning a 15,000 mile trip with my trailer. For that distance, I should need to fill up about 20 times.

My father-in-law used to have a 1998 K2500 SB with a 7.4 gasser. Lucky to go 150 miles on a tank. So, consider yourself fortunate http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Edited by: Diesel Dad

I installed an "in bed" aux tank/tool box combo of 60 gals. which pumps the fuel through a 2 mic filter then into the factory tank through the filler neck. Works great but does use a little bed space. Edited by: chrisb009

does anyone make an aux tank that goes where the spare tire is located? Seems this would be an easy install and realative inexpensive if one could relocate the spare (in the bed).

Seems to make sense to me as well. I dont feel like spending $900 for a tank and then pay to have it installed too. Way to much IMO.

I was surprised by the price tag also. Especially when one considers the current designs don't really make all the advertised capacity available. I'll admit, its nice to have the extra capacity. But usually, by the time I use up 22-23 gallons of fuel, I have to stop to pee anyway.

Man, I love my Transferflow tank in the bed. You do loose a lot of bed space but I love how it keeps my factory tank full all the time so I have nice cool fuel going up front to cool the diesel control brain. I also filter the fuel going into my factory tank. The price is fairly high but you just have to decide what you want to waste your money on. The only problem is by the time you have driven a thousand miles or so you realy have to go. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Rock On.gif

I have Transfer Flow 50gal in bed tank. I filter fuel through 2mic. filter before it goes to oem tank. Unless you use truck for work( I do not) the loss of space in front of bed is minimal. I am 6ft4in tall and can not reach up there anyway! This is an $$$system but the quality is top notch.

The front of my bed is where I keep my fire wood. I personally am leaning towards a Supertank. Do need to save some $ though.
