Anyone having any tire problems?

My '03 has about 18k on it and a couple months ago, I got a sidewall split--tire didn't deflate, but there was a crack about 3 ~4 inches long and about 2~4 mm wide. Took it to the dealer who "as a one time courtesy" replaced it with a new tire (they at first replaced it with a load C but I caught it and got the E).

Now, I've got another tire that has developed a ripple in the sidewall and I expect it is going to split as well. I run 80# in all my tires for towing (I don't have a big compresser so it's a real pain to inflate/deflate every time we go on a weekend with the TT). There are Firestone Steeltex (yea, there's a recall but not on the GMC's, just the F**d's I think).

Just wondering if anyone else is having tire issues.

Thanks!

At 17k my Firestone steel tex went by the wayside. The tread was very low and a few tread blocks were separating from the carcass.

I replaced them with Bridestone Duler Revos. 265/75 R16. The biggest size that is theoretically safe on a 6.5" rim. They are load E and I have found 65PSI all the way around to be very effective. After 11K they are wearing very flat. The factory reccomemdations of 50 PSI front and 80 PSI rear is for the birds. Those specs will ruin any set of tires. I personally beleive those specs were formulated from the tire manufactures reccomendations combined with the weight distribution of a fully loaded vehicle. A different scenario then everyday driving.

Maybe time for an upgrade for you? The tires keep you safe.

BTW, the factory shocks due not help tire longjevity any either. A tire must be firmly planted, to get good wear and good traction. Bilsteins, Ranchos and do not forget about Edelbrocks as suitable replacements. Edited by: Bronco
