I did a search on exhaust brakes and came up with alot of stuff. I'm pretty much convinced that I want one due to their success. The only thing I couldn't find is how hard are they on the motor. I know the big rigs are rebulding them almost every 6 months and I don't want to be doing that. How much maintence are these things? I'm looking at the banks brake for my LB7.

I have had a Banks on mine for 11/2 years with no problem. Given my driving conditions, I wouldn't be caught without one. Actually, one of the reasons I went diesel. One problem that is part of all of them (as far as I know), is they do not integrate with the TCM and ECM. So, while slowing using the brake, when the trans shifts down, it is a funny shift, as the brake impedes the ability of the engine to rev up. Minor deal.
Someone reports that their actator froze in the applied position, making the truck powerless - that is the only instance I am aware of.

Thanks for the info Tom, I won't have the problem with shifts like you do because I run the ZF, a big reason why I'm looking for an Exhaust Brake! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I've had a BD Exhaust Brake on my truck for 3 years now. I have had it freeze in the on position once. Just need to lube up a few joints and the air actuator. I have had to replace the 3-way solenoid this spring from the coil opening up. I'm pleased with it's operation and would buy another without a thought. I use it everyday.
