I have a question. I own a 1995 F-350 with a powerstroke and automatic. I bought a super chip tuner for it. Made a large difference. Now im going to try and buy some guages for it. But some of my friends were telling me to buy a 3" down pipe for it. I found a down pipe for it but the guy was telling me I was going to have to cut part of my fire wall away to install the new down pipe. Does anyone know if that is true, if it is how big of a deal is it. Do I have to cut much away from it. What is the best thing to do. Let me know if you have any ideas.

I just barely finished putting in my new Bully Dog downpipe. It wasn't too bad. First I undid the two nuts holding cat to the D/P. Then the muffler clamp on other side of the cat. Then I used a Sawzall and cut the back half of the old downpipe off. Then I removed the cat and gutted it! Then get a 11mm socket and undo the clamp that holds D/P to turbo, gently get clamp off. Then get your handy Sawzall again and cut as much of the top part of old D/P off and pull it down from bottom of truck. Reinstall gutted cat. Then what I did was put my new D/P in and it did touch in a few spots (firewall and up pipe and tranny line). I then got a marker and marked where the D/P was hitting, removed and ligdhtly dimped in marked area, reinstalled fired her up and WOW what a difference It will be well worth the work!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

I got a down pipe off ebay. I had one heck of a time getting that old flat thing off. I did not have to cut the fire wall any. The hardest part of the whole thing was getting the old down pipe off. I finally got it. I had to use a sawzall and cut the top off and drop it down from the bottom. The new one did not hit any where. It fit right up in there perfectly. Had to make no modifications at all. Man oh man it made a huge difference. I then used my super chip tunner and put it in performance and pulled the negative battery cable off and let the computer reboot. man it runs now.
good luck with anyone else doing this. its a pain in the butt but in the long run its worth it.

I put in a DP on my 97..and getting the old one off was by far the most pain int he ass thing I have ever dealt with in my life. I musta used ten blades, I think I started at a bad angle.
I swear the donw pipe that came from factory on these trucks is the first thing laying on the assembley line that they put on then they built the truck around it. Because I can't figure out how they could have possibly got the dam thing in after the engine and body was installed on the frame. All I know if anybody else plans on doing this little project you have to be pacient and allow all day long to complete it. Once you get that dam old one off the new one will take you less than 20 minutes to install and you are on the road. It will make a huge difference. I pulled my 30 foot fifth wheel and my boat hooked on the back this week end. Man I flew down the interstate like a bat out of hell. ha ha ha....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif

Mine was really easy.... I didnt have to cut or dent anything...
If you put it on the turbo at the right angle you will not have to cut or dent the firewall....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
My buddy has a 97 PSD and he had to dent his firewall at little bit b/c
the d/p would hit at idle and decel.....
