My fully loaded 06 Black 2500HD duramax came with everything but painted side mouldings, and painted fender flares.

I pulled the side mouldings off, now where do I buy pre painted fender flares? :ro)

:blahblah:

I'm not trying to be smart here, but neither of those links even work.

I have searched, and it did not provide me with a PLACE TO PURCHASE the fender flares. It only provided me with a bunch of posts where people were complaining they hated their black flares.

Try ebay. I've seen them on there from time to time.

Wow! They worked when I posted them. I tried them to be sure. They were two Search results for "Fender Flares" and "Painted Fender Flares". Guess that backfired on me. Sorry. :o:

So back to the orig. questions. Where or how? can you lightly sand down the texture and then paint them? because i dont like my black texture either, im going to get the mirror covers done and the flares, if i can figure out how

My advice would to go to a body shop, ask for some advice, see what they say, and possibly have them do it for ya. They'll probably say to sand them down smooth and spray 'em.

I was/am in the same situation as you, and WildChild (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/member.php?u=41098) gave me some info in a PM. I don't think he'd mind if I share:
Just a thought but..... why dont you have yours painted ive done several and if done correctly they look great and hold up just as good as the OEM painted ones. You can PM me ill tell you what ive been using if your interested. The only thing I'm worried about is adhesion. I've heard you rough sand them to knock down some of the texture and rough up the finish, then a thick primer, sanded smooth and then paint them. I'm afraid if a door or something hits them, it'll knock out a small chunk of paint and primer. What have you done?sand and clean them very well, but you dont have to sand them completly smooth...you have to use the (DuPont) adhesion promoter. Thats what allows everything else to stick. I did a set for a friend last year he's a farmer and we both travel alot of gravel although he generally travels gravel 60mph no matter what, his flares and bumper cover has held up great. I use the same products on anather friends race car (plastic Nose) he has a tendancy to ram his way to the front):h but the paint sticks very well considering the severe abuse. Use the promoter let dry a short time (as specified) that helps the fill primer stick to it then after fill primed and sanded down the next day if your surface looks good and smooth Use PPG DBC basecoat or whatever brand you prefer then clear and you will be done. If done correctly the paint will stick to these as good as the factory ones (they chip too) already got a couple nicks in my new ones and they were factory matched. P.S. you could use a tinted primer to better match your base color if you want but you dont have too.
