Ahem http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif couldn't help but notice you be in CA? There is a 1-800 number, thinking 1-800-cleanair (or something like that) that your fellow (smoked/sooted) motorist can call (almost everyone has a cell fone these days). DMV will then contact you and schedule you for an inspection (the only smogging of diesels in the state that I'm aware of) and could issue a 'fixit' citation.

Smoke 'em and let the DMV inspect, not like they're going to find anything wrong after you set the Juice to level 0. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Nope ~ its for real. Initially setup to get the smokers off the road ~ the ones burning crankcase oil. However, diesels also, while no routine smogging for diesels yet, they will smog by exception ~ exception being someone calling in complaining. Suppose he could test, and pass ~ but 2nd time? 3rd time? DMV would catch on and dig deeper. Just trying to save him some time/inconvienance. As for myself, diesel smoke is kool but too many times, been stuck behind some jallopy spewing white (crankcase oil) smoke mile after mile and the program seems to work as they are now few and far between. Even our trains are clean burning now. I don't mind.

All this smogging and california has the worst air quality in the united states. I have a 79 international scout that passed smog but didn't pass the visual test cause it has a 2 barrel carb instead of the 4 barrel factory carbhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

2003duramax1,

I think that you'll be fine about smoke in bakersfield, but if you ever drive down to L.A. then you should watch it.

Thats my take on it also ~ I recall the LA smog back in '48 and think its just as bad or worse now ~ some alibi thats because we have much much more (but cleaner) cars on the road now. Maybe so ~ but if CARB is seeing criticism of its efforts it may try to change focus to the diesels ~ heck, not may, they are already talking it. Not just our trucks but OTRs and generator diesels. Its just a matter of determining specs to shoot for. Notice the 03 TDIs are the last allowed to be sold here. They're hoping for 06 now ~ me thinks they'll try to tax us into submission first.

FWIW, just came back from Victoria CN. The tour director told us their property tax rate is 15% ! ! ! Sounds like one would pay out 4~5 times the value of his property before his 30yr mortage is paid off http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gifEdited by: ShumDit
