Going down interstate just cruising at 65 my engine all of the sudden started making loud valvetrain noise, louder than my straight exhaust. it didn't seem to loose power and there wasn't any noticable smoke. This has happened to me a few times over about four months and I can make it stop by clutching the truck turning it off, waiting a few seconds and then starting it back up and let out on the cluch and everything is fine again. I don't belive it is the pilot injection because the noise occurs at around 1800to2100 rpms. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

YOU MAY HAVE AN INJECTOR PROBLEM : IE LEAKING. IF ONE LEAKS IT CAN COUNTER ACT THE PILOT INJECTION ON THE OPPOSING CYL.

Leaking as into the valve cover or leaking as stuck open? If stuck open, could it torch a piston?

HAVEN'T HEARD OF FLAMING A PISTON , DUE TO THE HIGH PRESSURE
FUEL ATOMIZES GOING INTO THE CYLINDER.

Thanks for the replies. It doesn't make the noise all the time and it hasen't thrown any codes, do you know if I take it to the dealer if they will be able to check anything out or if they will just tell me to "wait unil the problem persists".

wouldn't hurt to take it to the dealership and have them look at the injector balance rates under high pressure, that and your regulator return rate at idle...key indicators of a inj problem.
