Going down interstate just cruising at 65 my engine all of the sudden started making loud valvetrain noise, louder than my straight exhaust. it didn't seem to loose power and there wasn't any noticable smoke. This has happened to me a few times over about four months and I can make it stop by clutching the truck turning it off, waiting a few seconds and then starting it back up and let out on the cluch and everything is fine again. I don't belive it is the pilot injection because the noise occurs at around 1800to2100 rpms. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like pilot to main injection...

Is it possible for the pilot injection to fail. I have a post in the "ask the tech" section. It seems I have the same noise/problem but all the time. What would cause it to shut off?
