I know this has been asked a thousand times so lets make it 1001 for this newbe. When I change my differentials after 500 or so miles I'm considering amsoil or grape juice. What do most of you knowledgable diesel heads think?

I just did mine yesterday with dealer supplied ACDelco synthetic 75W90,
Apparently it is the same stuff, smells the same, but is cheaper than the GM part # listed in the book. I called GM about it and they tell me that they now supply the ACDelco stuff part #89021678.
The best part about it was that it was only $16.95 per quart Canadian $'s.
Interesting note for the record, factory fill was just a bit over 2 quarts when I dumped it, and the refill took almost 4. There were a few chips when I screened the oil and about 1/2 a thimble of sludge

Did you guys fill until it came out of the fill hole, or the 1/4" down from the hole, like they claim. Also on these did you put the limmited slip additive in?

I filled it till it ran out a little........don't think 1/4" of fluid makes a difference.
Least I know it's full...........http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Thanks guys, there has been so much talk about these rear diffs guys are making them out to be the space shuttles when I realize that it is just a standard ring and pinion. I'm a tech that has been in the industry for 7 years now. I was arguing with a buddy sittin here that you can just fill them all the way up and that they didn't need the additive, he says that GM says to measure down 1/4" from fill hole to have correct level. I too say bull $hit. So i said we'll post and see what comes up. Anyways thanks guys for your .02

Justified I think the GM by the book way is to leave it a 1/4" down but I'm not postive. Maybe a on-site tech can look it up.
But like has been said, most just fill it up till it spills out the hole. A little extra wont hurt.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
O2B12S I think they switched when they came out with the Duramax
