I'm picking up my first diesel this week, a 2500 HD crew.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big%20Smile.gif The dealer asked if I wanted the extended warranty. I never bought into it with a gasser, but with the turbo and not knowing much about the dmax and allison I'm looking for input. Thanks

Whole truck.....3 yr/36K

Engine only is 5 yr/100K

Ask yourself...........how long will I keep it ?????

How many miles will I drive it ????????

If you plan on keeping it beyond 5 years or drive high miles then maybe...........

I opted for no extended warranty as I trade up often.......

There are deals to be had .......... sometimes it's better to go with the dealers recommended warranty if it's a fair price...then have to deal with an independent company.

I know I purchased a 7 yr/100K bumper to bumper on my 2003 Tahoe.......but I got it for less than 1/2 the initial offer because of persistance.

Good Luck,

Tony, Thanks for the input. I just traded a 2003 1500 HD for the DMAX/ALLY so I'm hoping to keep it for a while otherwise my wife will get half.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif The engine warranty is good but, what about the ally? I drive between 15 and 20K a year. Most of my towing will be an 18ft fiahing boat and a 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer. I forget what the extensions were but they wanted about 2000 for it. I've read a lot about changing differentials right away, when should I change the tranny and filters?

Extended warranty is basically an insurance policy; you may use it and you may not, but for some people it's nice to have that piece of mind that you're covered if something goes wrong.

In my experience, most of the time, the engine/tranny don't tend to nickle and dime you, it's all that other stuff from a squeaky dash to an ABS sensor. My last truck blew two power window actuators, first the driver's then the passenger's, at $400 bucks a pop right after the warranty was out. So it doesn't take long to pay for extended warranty even with a few minor problems but then again, you may not use it at all.

It's a judgement call I guess but this time I opted for the extended warranty although I think GM should offer some kind of discount since the engine is allready covered for 5 years

I read in alother post that if you don't use the extended warranty that you get your money back. Does anybody know more about this? Sounds to good
