Last tire question...got the 16 by 6.5, noticed most of yall have the nice wide aluminum wheels. How big can i go, since most tire charts list a min of a 7 inch wide wheel, is half an inch really a big dealor does it do weird sh*t to the sidewall? I might just end up biting the bullet and finding some aluminum takeoffs.

Well I decided to go with a 255/85 series, I kinda like the cookie cutter look and having the added diameter. The one I want has a D load range, but still is rated for 3000 lbs per tire. It is 33.3 inches, which is actually taller than the 285/75 or the 305 70, the 315/75s are like 34.8, slightly taller. I figure with how narrow they are, it willr equire a minimumof trimming. These are the ones I am going with, tentatively.

The only thing you have to worry about with the stock rim is how wide your tire tread is. Since you're only going 10mm wider than stock tires, you'll be fine! It's alot less than guys going to 285's, that's 40mm wider than stock. Plus seeing as you're going taller, that's just a bonus to how much side-wall strain you'll have. I say go for it if you like pizza cutters. Personally I like the fatties, but each to his own!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif

I had 285's on my stock rims on my 2000 Z71 for 2 years with no problems whatsoever. Send me a message if you want to see pics.

Redapple, thanks for the offer, I would like to see some pics posted here please,let everyone see the nice truck :) As far as the sidewall works, seems 255/85s all claim to work with a 6.5 width wheel, so I'm golden. Also appears the factory alloys on the gms are also 6.5, so not gonnago that route. Just gonna stick with my cheap steelies..ha!

I went with 10 ply 265 Nitto's on my factory rims and they work just fine. Did not want to go with 285's on the stock wheels. Plus hard to find and "E" loadrange in the 285 size. Although most 285's are rated at near the same max weight as a 265 10 ply...

If your asking what size 16" LT Tire is spec'd for a 6.5" wide rim, they are as follows;
215/70R16, 225/70R16, 235/70R16, 245/70R16, 255/70R16
225/75R16, 245/75R16
215/85R16, 235/85R16, 255/85R16
265/75R16 and 285/75R16 tires are not spec'd for 6.5" wide rims.
265's are spec'd for 7" to 8" wide rims.
285's are spec'd for 7.5" to 9" wide rims.
That doesn't mean that people will have problems if they run them, it just means the manufacturer did not design the tires with the intention of having them mounted on 6.5" wide rims, and as such I'm sure will not warranty them if done so. I know that plenty run them, I'm just answering a question posed.
