All this talk about limpin' the tranny. I have not had any problems--yet. As it seems from all of info I can gather is that it is just a matter of time. So I decided to call a tranny place and they told me $6K to completely rebuild it to handle and extra HP.
Something seems fishy to me. If I lived in Colorado and pulled a travel trailer up and down those mountains mashing the pedal to the floor with stock hp and stock tranny I would think it would be pretty hard on that tranny. But I live in an area where the biggest hills are the overpasses. With that in mind wouldn't you think that Allison would engineer some what of a safety factor in their trannys. I think the warranties remain the same for both areas. If there wasn't any safety-factor designed ino the stock tranny, they would have either extended the warranty for flat areas or shortened it for mountain regions.
I suppose if you mash it to the floor everytime you take off with a HP boost you could cause your tranny extra wear and tear. But if you drive easy it would seem that no wear and tear would be noticed. Just like towing--if you mash it to the floor uphill, I would think you could over torque you tranny. But if you hold the pedal steady while under load and let truck slow down naturally seems to me that no overtorque could occur.
I may be wrong (which many of you guys will correct me), but something just doesn't add up.
Correct me if I am wrong, I don't want my tranny to limp.
