I am planning no changing the fluid in my tranny. Can I drain the stock fluid and then add the Mobil 1 ATF, without doing a complete flush? I figured that if I drained the pan 5 times, I would have it close to completely flushed. Otherwise, I may just take it to the dealer and have them do a complete change.

Thanks!

Why would you waste your time filling and draining 5 times when you could just flush it with methods outlined on this site add get it all done? Minutes spent searching vs hours spent diluting....

I already seen that, thanks for pointing out the what I already knew. Minutes spent responding incorrectly to a question = bad information.

Now that we got that out of the way, back to the original question. Can you mix the stuff?

I went to the dealer for some filters today, they quoted me $150 for a flush.

My bad, my mind reader was off line last night. I was just trying to help and maybe save some time and money. You had mentioned mixing and flushing previously and since it would take less time to flush it than drain it, fill it, and run it 5 times thought you might be intrested in the info. Mix away!

Axe don't be so cranky, TT was trying to help. Yes, you can mix them. If not my 4l80e will be expiring.

I got your crank!!!!!!!!! I just had to fire back, to the search response (there is a search responder on every forum). I am quite familiar with these forums and I always search first. There was only one vague thread on mixing the fluids, so I thought I would see if others had any experience. Most of the threads discuss brands of fluid, not the mixing.

I am probably going to have it changed at a shop, just cause I don't want to have to deal with the volume of fluid. My pans only hold 20 quarts, so I would have to figure out what to do with the rest.

My fluid looks as good as it did when new, but with around 25K, I figured I would just change it at those intervals.

Thanks for the input!

5 gallon buckets are only like $3 at Home Depot bud.

That's what I was going to suggest. Or you can use the 5 gallon cubies that restaurants buy their fry oil in. They usually change at least once a week and then throw the empty cubies away.

Yeah bud, I got three of them and I ain't planning on dumping ATF or oil in them. I guess I should have done a search on $3 buckets (why didn't I think of that????). Wait a minute, I got mine free why would I search for that!

Turbotug, you should have the $3 buckets listed under your supply link in your signature. Well, on second thought since the link doesn't work it wouldn't help anyway!

Like I said, if I could do it by mixing the fluids with the equipment I had and a little time it was a consideration. Otherwise, I may just as well get someone else to do it for a reasonable price. I am going to see if the transmission shops will give me a good rate on Mobil 1 or Transyd.
