This is in response to an earlier thread of mine about pulling in 4HI. Just about 30 minutes ago I floored it at a red light in 2WD. I just happened to look at my Attitude when I felt the shift to 2nd and in the blink of an eye the TC locked up. Was this a fluke??? I had the Edge on 3/3 and defuel on 4-5 locked shift. I will be trying to make this happen again later on, but untill then let the discussion begin. I've read that this should not happen, but it did and it makes me contemplate...A 4HI PULL!!! I already know a few of you will say "do it at your own risk" and I understand that. I am more concerned with the "why and how" this happened.

Your converter will lockup in 2nd gear in "Tow/Haul" mode or 3rd in "Normal" mode if above 75% TPS.
Install a good converter and you won't need the Attitude to tell you when it locks, you will feel it.

Shep, man, pay attention. It doesn't lock in first.
All other gears, yes.
Look, you need to do some math. Even with 31" tires, in first-hi, at your rpm limit of 3200, guess how fast you are going?
25.5 mph. If you even got the chance to shift, it would drop you to 1900 rpm.
Ain't gonna happen.
So the shift to second in 4HI will kill the RPM initially, but most importantly kill the momentum and staying in the sweet spot in the power band.

Bingo. If you had 700 hp, I'd say hang it out there and try it, but you're not there yet.

2nd gear hi?? good luck with that. There's no sweet spot in 1st gear with 4hi. Not trying to be a dink just being realistic.
