Yesterday while changing the shocks I noticed some oily mess above my oil filter. BTW shocks were shot at 52k as expected.

I drove the druck up and down the road quicly and turned it off. One of they guys hanging around and help me out noticed a spot about 15 inches in round under the truck. I backed up and smelled the spot and sure enough it is diesel. So back under the truck I went and drip, drip, drip off the front of the trasmission I did see. And it is diesel. This is the rear of the engine but before the ally spin on filter.

Problem. I can not see from below or above where it is coming from. The oily mess on the filter the same thing. I can see it but no where it is coming from.

Questions, is this 1 problem or 2 and any ideas on what the problem is with the leak of diesel?

More info I have been smelling diesel for a few weaks under the hood or in front of the truck but could not see anything. Investigation yesterday indicates that once the truck is hot the smell of diesel is present under the hood and no more dipping. It is getting burned off on something hot.

This is why I don't have spots that large at work or home to of caused alarm before. I want to have it looked at today so I am off to the dealer 1.5 hours one way trip in Saginaw Michigan. I want to know it is ok to pull a 24k fiver. The local shops are all booked up and 1/2 the staff at the one called in sick. Nice! So off to Sag-I-Nasty I go.

Any ideas or suggetions are greatly apprecaited. Very stressul situation. Next week Thursday I am to pull the fiver down to meet the new bride to be's family. Would be very bad to have to call it off due to no ride to pull fiver.

Other then a vibration that can not be found or fixed by dealer and myself the truck has been very good to this point. 52k on it now.

Scott, I would guess your leaking from the fuel rail on the driver side. Locate the rail, peek through the area behind the compressor and at the end of the rail is an allen head bolt, clean it off with brake clean and go drive the truck, I bet it gets wet again from fuel. If you have a tech 2, you can clean it off and then command fuel pressure up, same thing. It is filling the engine valley and running out the back, or its running alog the valve covers and draining off were you see it.

BTW, you going to Draper or McDonald? I guess Martin is out there too....

I called Martin and they said both diesel techs were light today. That is where I bought the truck and since the 2 dealers within 15 minutes are booked I have to go 3 hours round trip.

Question, if it is running along the vavle covers would i be able to see that somewhere and does this mean bigger trouble then I think?

Is the allen head bolt part of the "Fuel leak from rail pressure sensor" problem?

Thank you for the info and the ally deep pan has worked great I got from you. Very happy.

if it is what I am thinking, its the actual fuel rail itself, where the lines to the injectors tie in.

They may use tracer dye to help pinpoint the leak, makes it easier to see, just dump it in tank and run it a bit, fuel leak will show up bright yellow/green with black light. Lemme know what they find, but if its rail, unlikey they stock ithttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

I have also seen the injector pump housing leak without setting codes

you may want to also look down in the valley and see if it has diesel filled up in it.
